I love when "LOL great player can't win title" memes have to choke on it.

 

That was my main reason for rooting for them. That and the “team can’t win the big one”.

 

Congrats to Ovechkin. Wish that series could have gone longer because it was a fun one.

Like 97% of professional athletes are bad people. I've made my peace with it.

i get justifying celebrating a team you care about, but to pretend you like the capitals and ovi? I mean, you just want to support awful.

I didn't get to watch much of the Stanley Cup and I'm a Blackhawks fan so I really didn't care who won (I sort of was rooting for the Knights), but I did find this very amusing...

Wouldn't it be extra bad to only give a pass to guys on your teams? That feels hypocritical.

meh, fandom is rooting for a specific set of laundry and the athletic acts displayed upon the field of play. its just gravy when a player actually turns out to be a fun/good person.

Agreed. I was also pulling for the Caps due to the misery DC fans have had to endure but obviously there are good and bad fans of any city/fanbase.

 

Also the Putin stuff is disappointing but utterly unsurprising to hear. From my very limited viewing Ovi seems like a loveable meathead.

It's going to be another frustrating off season for the CBJ. While I appreciate that the team has done better in the past 4 seasons than they had in the previous 15, the front office is all in on "draft and develop" and basically refuses to sign anyone significant in free agency. The strategy is great if you manage to draft a McDavid, Crosby or Kane. So far the Jackets have seen four players sign elsewhere, while only adding Riley Nash, and all signs point towards Panarin not wanting to sign an extension.
