Honestly makes me happy that 2 prominent Cubs posters may or may not have quit following the Cubs due to all the off the field horsefeathers. It shows that these actions do have an effect in the bottom line, even with non-casual fans, even if I personally don’t have the balls to quit.

treeman definitely did

i really don't think the brewers had anything to do with anything

a - he was right and the brewers were luckboxes

b - people are constantly wrong on the internet, especially on sports message boards. nobody cares.

he was a smart and respected poster here and i'm sure he was well aware of that. i doubt he felt so much shame that he had to rage quit.

I guess you dont remember the game threads from 2018

not being a completely insane spaz about individual baseball games isn't a gimmick

i admit I'm a game thread spaz but that wasnt it at all. imb isnt a game thread spaz but he probably remembers what I'm talking about. I just think its funny to suggest that he left because of morals when that's not at all what happened. he quit after 2018 because he dug into his "cubs are gods and the brewers cant possibly beat us" shtick too hard and then didnt want to deal with it after they lost. like I fully admit my part and being a child, but he left because he was mad about the brewers stuff, it was obvious. It's not even neccesarily an insult, he had plenty of reason to be annoyed.

I pretty much agree with this. If the Cubs dynasty had unfolded like we all had hoped then Duke would have looked past the shitty people in the organization IMO. 2018 probably put a lot of the fizzling fire out.

I mean it didnt have anything to do with the brewers specifically, it was because we would get into fights in every game threads. people (like me) would complain about the games and he would overcompensate by developing the shtick. Then the cubs actually did lose and he said fucki it and left. Idk why people are acting like this didnt happen.

I believe his legit reasons for leaving but I think he also got sick of the back and forth of the complaining to complain and no real substance to back the complaints when he was giving real reason and stats. But whatever I think he’s largely gone for good for whatever reasons.

everyone always agreed the cubs were better, it was never about that. it was about his unwillingness to admit they were vulnerable and that bad stuff could happen to them.

Sure. That’s not why he left, imo. Talking to him he got fed up with some stuff here and the main thing was Ricketts/Russell.

The real reverse jinx fueling Kyle Hendricks’ career is me calling him a meaningless non-entity when we traded for him

I've talked to some salty Cardinals fans that are still waiting for the pixie dust to wear off. (One of them is actually Keith Hernandez's daughter.)

Blatant false advertising. We all know he'd just scalp a drifter for hair like that.

there's a blood meridian reference in here somewhere...

Balls of steel, this guy:

“You don’t really see the players coming out and saying that we took a 63% loss this year,” Happ said on the Dan Bernstein Show on Tuesday morning. “That’s not the narrative from the players, because we didn’t lose any real money. Guys still got paid. Guys still made more than zero. We didn’t have to give anything back. So it’s really tough to claim loss when it’s just money that wasn’t realized. But that’s the case on both sides, right? The case is there was a projection for earnings, and nobody met their projection for earnings. And that was the case in 2020. That was the case for many businesses across the world in 2020. And you don’t see players coming out and using that narrative because it would go terribly, right? You would have no fans sympathetic to a professional baseball player for not making 100% of their salary and only making 36, 37%. But that’s the narrative that’s being spun on the other side. It doesn’t make a lot of sense.”

We barely knew thee, Ian Happ!

While I applaud the general attitude, he's displaying a massive misunderstanding of the most super-basic business finance.

Alright I'll bite. Oversimplifying? Sure. But the players and the businesses both received less revenue than expected (and contractually guaranteed) while maintaining a certain level of fixed expenses. Where is the 'massive misunderstanding'?
