Leathersich has actually been flatout dominant since the beginning of June. I was looking at his numbers and he had a rough go early on but in his last 32 IP these are some ridiculous stats

.55 ERA

13 H

44% K

12% BB

.119 OBA

.86 WHIP

Kind of surprised they chose Pierce over that

So is Maples really on the team? Today would have been the perfect game to give him an inning but instead they put Pena out there to walk guys and when they showed the bullpen camera dude wasn't even there (**edit I guess they showed him dancing in the bullpen earlier in the game, I guess that's why they brought him up, bullpen entertainer). If he's not getting a shot in today's game I dunno when's he will get one.

Blowout loss I guess

I didn-t have a chance to see the game. How did Maples look?

He hit 99 and his slider looked filthy but he did struggle with commans a little. I think he should get high leverage innings right away, especially with Rondon and Uehara's struggles. Like CEJ, there'll be control issues from time to time but the stuff is filthy and should cover for that.

Designating Hahnemann, bringing up Taylor Davis. Good for him. May he stare the horsefeathers out of all cameras.

Not sure why from a baseball standpoint.

Also, Leathersich was picked up by the Pirates. Really would have rather had Leathersich in the system than Hannemann or Davis.

As much as I have a soft spot for Pierce Johnson, leatherstitch should have kept his spot. Same for hannemann. Not sure how Martin is better.

The said, really happy for Davis.

Johnson has pitched extremely well for a couple of months. Its easy to see him being a contributor in next years pen.

Hannemann is a nothing. Martin has experience, which likely means a bit to the guys calling the shots. And Davis' clubhouse stuff this month and in the playoffs, probably contribute as much or more than what Hannemann ever would as a major leaguer for us.

Yeah, totally agree with Davell. Reward Davis by promoting him, and I'm sure he's a good clubhouse guy who'll eventually move into some FO role for the Cubs after his playing career is over.

Hannemann might end up being a 4th outfielder who gets a cup'o'coffee and joins a bunch of organizations. I never liked him, and was curious why we took him so high...I know this is petty and silly, but I'm still upset with that selection in the 2013 MLB draft. Yeah, I know we got freakin' KRIS BRYANT with our first round pick and made the right decision with our most important pick of that draft. That's the guy I wanted and we made sure we got him. Good job Cubs!

That said, after KB we took Zastryzny, Hannemann and Skulina. Pretty disappointing considering where we were picking in those rounds and the talent that was available. We did take Z. Godley in the 10th round and he has turned into a pretty good pitcher for Arizona. The best hope for lower round contributors from that draft are T. Clifton and C. Burks at this point.

Cubs announce they have DFA'd Pierce Johnson and added Jen-Ho Tseng to the 40 man roster.

I quit obsessing over the minor leagues after everyone graduated and the Cubs became great. I know who JHT is, but I can't say I've paid any attention to his starts in the past season-plus. Tell me how I should feel about him staring tomorrow. I am an empty vessel...

I'm curious about the move, but putting him in the middle of a pennant race seems like a bad idea. He's got extremely average stuff, but hits his spots. Maybe they think he's a better option than Monty, against this lineup?

But mainly, I figure they're trying to get Monty back into the pen, because of how awful they've been horsefeathering Wilson, in particular.

If this was August, I'd be excited to see this. Right now, I'd rather Monty just have stayed in the rotation.

Joe is expecting a Kyle type who throws low 90s. He also hinted that he could play a role beyond the rotation, this season.

Taylor Davis says he commands both sides of the plate with 4-5 different pitches and threw with more confidence when he reached AAA.

He really seems like a Hendricks-type pitcher. Not overpowering stuff but great command. I like him as an option for the 5th start spot next year. This move does seem questionable now though. I'd also guess Davis is catching him today?

Joe would've had to of gotten into the meth for Taylor Davis to get a start in any game right now. I'm guessing it's either Avila or Caritini (at worst).

Geez I know the Mets are bad but I don't know if I want to really handcuff us.

I've somehow missed the origins of the "Joe is drunk" meme. Can anyone direct me?
