Yeah, his past really has nothing to do with how United and security reacted to the situation.

As for the overbooking, I get why they do it, but part of bit them here is how they were trying to cheap out on their obligations to customers in these situations. An airline can give you up to 4 times the value of your ticket, or a max of $1300, as compensation. Alright, so nobody got off for $400 or $800...then quit being cheap and offer the $1300. I guarantee you people would have gotten off for that much.

I once volunteered and got $800 and was rebooked on another flight 6 hours later. This situation, sounds like they had to stay overnight in Chicago. I agree, stop being cheap. Also, the money is only good in airline credits to be used within one year. At least that was the case with me.

Oh, horsefeathers, I thought they gave you the money. That's horsefeathers up.

Ah, another loophole. If no one takes their offer, they are forced to give you cash. But they can keep offering vouchers all day long until someone takes the vouchers. They'll even offer $1,300 in vouchers first. But you are allowed to decline the vouchers and demand a check. I'm sure they let you know that right out of the gate, though.

horsefeathers, I guess this should all be moved to the badge idiot thread; I didn't even realize we were in the game thread. Damn these off days!

I got $800 and got a free room at the hotel next to the airport since my flight was at 10 at night and the next was 7 am. Used the $800 on another flight that I wouldn't have planned if I didn't volunteered so it worked out.

Still, it's a volunteer program. You can't just forced someone to leave without a good reason. All of this so United employees can get on the plane (they can't get on other planes, wait for the next, find another way, call Louisville saying that you can't make it so they'll have to call another employee to come in, etc...???).

I'd be a rich son of a gun if they did. the vouchers are nice as hell if planning family travel, especially so if your travel is covered under a business expense but your airline account is under your personal info. I'm planning a big trip next spring break so I've already started opening my ears to be a volunteer to get bumped

Yeah, if it wasn't an off day I'd have mentioned something...but meh.

It's too early for this to mean anything but I am still going to mention that Willy is chasing pitches at a pace not far off from Javy and making contact at the same rate.

O-Swing

Willy 41.2 (59.5 contact)

Javy 48.4 (59.4 contact)

Again I acknowledge it is only 20 PA but that is a lot of chasing from Willy whom I expect to be a disciplined hitter. Love the guy but let's hope that's early-season over-anxiousness and that he can rein it in. He's a beast but he's not gonna get many barrels like that.

However, Schwarber is filling the void Dex left with a sparkling 21% and Zo, Russell, Heyward, and Rizzo are all below 30%, with KB trailing by just a tad, and likely to tighten his zone significantly and join that group soon.

Love when these guys just spit on pitches out of the zone.

From my not expert analysis of Willy vs Javy there from watching these early games. It seems like Willy takes one or two wild hacks in an ab where it seems like he's just guessing FB and swinging hard no matter where the pitch is, but then can generally reign it in and put together a quality ab after his one guess swing. Javy on the other hand seems like the same old Javy.

Agree that Willy probably needs to cut the O-Swing rate down but I don't think it's just entirely him not recognizing correctly/not being able to control himself I think part of it is him cheating.

Is "same old Javy" the 2014 Javy or the 2016 Javy?

         Swing%	O-Swing%	Z-Swing%	Contact%	SwStr%	K%
2014 46.8 39.5 58.7 59.0 19.2 41.5
2016 52.6 42.9 67.9 72.4 14.4 24.0

SSS and stupid to take anything as meaningful right now but he certainly looks closer to 2014 Javy so far this year than last years improvement Javy, especially last night. Part of that is probably due to the fact over half his PAs this year have been vs RHP so far.

I agree with this that it's not a pitch recognition issue but rather that he might be guessing. Hitters do this from time to time but some more than others obviously. Willy has the track-record of a disciplined approach so I definitely give him the benefit of the doubt.

Javy on the other hand... honestly I think he got a little too gassed up on himself and he's not thinking about just putting the ball in play at all right now. Joe and Co. need to get him going middle-away again.

So Wednesday is Ring Day. I live in LA and they are actually showing the game locally but that means they blackout the Cubs feed. Does anyone know if anything will be streamed online that wont be blacked out as far as the ceremony goes?

Haha the whole team looks like a bunch of badasses in the picture of them walking in. What a bunch of proud mugs.

I also had to check this thread title 3-4 times when it got hijacked by the United Airlines thing to make sure I hadn't been perusing the wrong one.

It's almost as if his PAs against them should be limited or something.

It's almost like we could have guessed this would happen..... I get we have the luxury to throw him out there vs RHP since we are so good and hope he figures something out, because developing an average to good Javy vs RHP is what's in the team's long term interest (at the expense essentially of holding 70-100 PAs away from John Jay). But he looks like he has no horsefeathering clue vs RHP and right now our best possible starting lineup vs RHP shouldn't have Javy in it (Jay or Almora in CF, Heyward in RF, Zobrist at 2B).

Man, I think they should totally demand that the reigning WS champ gets to wear those baller gold trim uniforms all season.

I think the Royals did all last year, or maybe the only Royals game I watched all year was their home opener game. They aren't important enough to remember.

Every Friday home game.

I wonder if part of the reason for all his starts early on is that, while he needs to improve a ton to get there, his ceiling is still right up there Russell/Schwarber, if not Rizzo/Bryant, and given our projected cushion in the division, Theo/Joe know they can afford to put out a suboptimal lineup (one that is still far and away better than any other team in our division) and not have it impact our chances of making the playoffs (while giving Javy the best chance to reach his peak).

Or basically what Cubswin said.

homeboy can't get nothin right

He's 3-0 as a starter, so I'd say he's getting the important parts right

Related note, but I just remembered that Heyward Fan managed to go 0-3 as a game thread starter in a year that the Cubs won 103 games.

They showed the banner ceremony on MLB.com and Cubs.com. Nothing announced on that front but that seems like a good bet.

Eh, he's at the bottom of the order, and it's obvious that Joe wants to have Javy out there every day. The Cubs can afford to let him make some adjustments and try to get better.

Too subtle. Need to go full 1906 Giants.
