LOOK AT RICKETTS, DODGERS:

OK, don't look at that last one, but look at the others a LOT.

The Cubs deprived us of sleep, but delivered us more awesomeness with a great walkoff win on BANNER DAY. This time, the Dodgers will get to kiss the ring (and, hopefully, the dong) of the foe they can never hope to defeat. Brandon McCarthy is a pretty funny guy who hopefully will be able to see the lighter side of getting donged into another plane of existence. I mean, it's gotta be better than a line drive to the dome, right?

John Lackey will be looking to sink his teeth into the Dodgers' fleshy hides...and, well, pretty much anything else in chomping-range. Go get 'em, you dad jeans-wearing motherflunker!

Holy horsefeathers, people in the media are basically doxxing the plane guy? Why? What does that have to do with what happened to him? I'm sure they're doing the same to the plane cops and the United staff, right?

Because this is what crisis P.R. firms do in a crisis. They find all the dirt they can on the other guy and feed it to the media to report on. Just like the dumb gate agents and cops, they can claim they were just "doing their job".

I have only loosely followed this, and United made some really stupid decisions that I am in no way defending. They should have put their employees on another plane (or, hell, even a car) or offered more money until someone actually agreed to volunteer.

That said, that is really bizarre behavior. Like actually getting to the point that he had to be forcibly removed and dragged off was really really weird. Who does that?

That seems really stupid if that is the case. Why not just issue some kind of public apology, maybe some token firing of some employee thrown under the bus, and take the L? I feel like that would be way better received.

Dude... it's incredible the path we're going down as a country these days. It's just disgusting. I mean, almost EVERYONE has some type of past. Even if he did a past (which he does IIRC), it still doesn't give an excuse for that assault and everything that happened.

Which also bring up another point... why are flights keep getting overbooked? I mean, is it THAT hard to keep track of how many seats they have left on the plane or something?

People get weird on airplanes.

Yeah, his past really has nothing to do with how United and security reacted to the situation.

As for the overbooking, I get why they do it, but part of bit them here is how they were trying to cheap out on their obligations to customers in these situations. An airline can give you up to 4 times the value of your ticket, or a max of $1300, as compensation. Alright, so nobody got off for $400 or $800...then quit being cheap and offer the $1300. I guarantee you people would have gotten off for that much.

why are flights keep getting overbooked?

Flights are overbooked on purpose because not everybody that books a flight actually takes the flight. Either plans change, weather, delayed connections or some other thing will keep a certain percentage of every flight from actually putting every booked customer on board. The volunteer program is designed so that airlines can correct when they've over estimated how much space will actually be available.

Two extra problems here is A) United has always had garbage customer service and the worst employee relations, and B) it was actually an outsourced flight being flown by another company under the United umbrella.

I believe that not only can they give up to 4 times the value of your ticket or a max of $1,300, but they have to give you that, right? They can give you less. But if nobody takes it, they are legally bound to give you that much. So they auction the vouchers off, trying to find the first sucker who will take them up on the offer, before they get up to that max, which they would then be forced to give.

I once volunteered and got $800 and was rebooked on another flight 6 hours later. This situation, sounds like they had to stay overnight in Chicago. I agree, stop being cheap. Also, the money is only good in airline credits to be used within one year. At least that was the case with me.

Yeah, I think so, which is why it's such shady bull horsefeathers they try to lowball people, acting like they're doing a favor offering $400.

Oh, horsefeathers, I thought they gave you the money. That's fucked up.

Yep. Corporations in a nutshell. "OK, so we have to do this... unless we could be completely greedy and make everyone miserable just to pinch pennies."
