Am I the only one irrationally fearful that Bryant's off-season efforts to go to RF more are gonna turn him back into the first half 2015 KB who didn't homer that much and struggled terribly for a month?

 

Why fix what wasn't even close to broken? Who cares where your dongs go?

I don't think that's an irrational fear, but I think it's logical for him to try and close holes in his game. Sure he wasn't lacking for power overall, but if you're not driving the ball the other way then unless you're on top of the plate Rizzo style then guys with stuff can pitch around your power.

Cards shut out by Cincy 2-0, on one hand this moves the Cards to 1-3 on their homestand, on the other hand it ensures the Cubs can't take sole possession of first place today

I don't disagree with the premise, but if it were that easy, why didn't pitchers get around it last year?

Because most pitchers lack either the velocity or the command to do so with consistency. It's like the curveball thing from the world series, it's not an easy button to getting Bryant out, but if you can throw hard and live on the outside edge you can stay there until Bryant puts it in play(which is probably not a XBH) or until you're forced to by the count.

 

The other thing that makes me worry less about it is 1) Bryant is baseball perfection personified and 2) hitting with oppo power has been a hallmark of his in the past, so it's not exactly a drastic change.

If neither Rondon or Davis are actually broken then the bullpen has preposterous depth. Justin Grimm ran a 3.28 FIP with a great K rate last year and he's legit 6th in the pecking order. And 7th is Montgomery who belongs in a MLB rotation.
