Not optionable, but that'll work for a 7th starter. Especially since he stands a fair chance of being able to be outrighted if he doesn't show big improvement in ST.

others are referring to him as a guy they can shuttle back and forth.

Cahill him and see if he can start later on

I was thinking about this when double checking his repertoire. He'd probably sit 95-96 out of the pen and throws a slider, plus he hasn't had huge strike throwing problems. On the other hand, he can't get anyone to swing and miss, and the pen is already super crowded with Davis, Rondon, Strop, Uehara, Edwards, Grimm, Montgomery/Anderson, & Duensing/Zastryzny/Smith.

Admittedly I only eyeballed his MLB experience and took his DFA as proof he was out of options, but if he does have one left then that's great.

brett and bruce miles refer to sending him to AAA while other outlets prior to the deal talked about him as a guy w/o options.

presumably they DFA'd him for 40 man reasons, when the Rockies acquired Holland.

The Cubs added some more pitching depth Wednesday, completing a trade with the Colorado Rockies for right-hander Eddie Butler.

Butler will represent another option for the starting rotation if injuries or ineffectiveness strike the Cubs staff. He has an option remaining, meaning he does not have to be included on the 25-man big-league roster and can begin the season with Triple-A Iowa

Sharma says he has an option too, awesome. Love this move in that light.

Love the move, since he evidently has an option. MLBDepthcharts was off on that. As a 7th SP, he's solid. Plus, I like the Cahill idea.

What are the details on the bonus pool swap.

No idea. Probably around a mill or so? But, we are not able to sign guys for more than 300,000 anyway.

I'm surprised other teams didn't try harder to get him. This is a great move towards improving our pitching depth. Not sure exactly what went wrong, but pitching at Coors and even their AAA affiliate probably affected his mechanics/ability to recover properly. Hopefully, he returns to the form that made him a top prospect.
