DO NOT DRIVE IN THE DR

Seriously. Remember when Strop got in a serious accident in the DR. Fortunately he survived while Ventura was not so fortunate :(

some espn guy says it's believed he was under the influence. i remember he was really shook up when oscar taveras was killed. don't understand how you can lose a close friend to drunk driving and then go out and do it yourself.

hope there was no one with him in the car. I'm sad that he's gone but drunk driving in the DR is an insanely stupid and dangerous thing to do. I think him and Tavares were good friends. How do you see a good friend die in DD accident and then go out and do it yourself?

I'm not sure what the practical realistic answer is to this sudden epidemic. I'm pretty sure the guys back in the 70's and 80's drunk drive just as much, but damn so much young talent lost just because they couldn't pick up the phone for a cab.

Statistically, the DR is the most dangerous place to drive in the world. Could teams start fining or somehow otherwise punishing players if they find out a player was driving drunk and luckily didn't get into an accident? I would have to imagine the union would be up in arms about such a thing if the police weren't actually involved.

and not that money (or lack thereof) excuses it in any way to begin with, and I know it gets said every time a high profile celeb gets pegged for DUI or dies in a wreck, but why the hell aren't they being driven around when they go out and get trashed

wtf

There is a disturbing report out of the Dominican Republic, yet to be confirmed by police, but in wide circulation thanks to a series of tweets from Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez. The report: that looters encountered a still alive Yordano Ventura after his automobile accident, robbing of him his World Series ring and other possessions, before leaving him to die.

Well this is horsefeathering awful. Though I'm not sure what value an easily traceable World Series ring would have to a burglar. I guess they could get all of the diamonds out of it, somehow. What a terrible person this has to have been.

Probably should take a break on what amounts to Pedro Martinez tweeting about a rumor coming from the DR. Speculation and rumor always goes out of control after a high-profile death – it could be as simple a thing as he lost his ring in the crash and someone going "he was robbed!" and it snowballing from there.

It's the DR so anything is possible.
