Look, he's a cool-ass dude, he gave the president a pair of swaggy Jordans, he hit a leadoff homer in Game 7 of the World Series, and he still calls the Cubs his family. I'm just putting this into words before he inevitably has a few good games against us while Heyward struggles and we all start to get pissed off. Edited by Elon Musk

I could never hate him after what he did last offseason. You can tell he wishes he was still here. What he was worth on the open market just didn't make sense for the Cubs, there's no way anyone can blame him for that.

Dexter Fowler is and forever will be a 2016 World Champion Chicago Cub.

It pains me that he's a Cardinal of all teams but very likable dude that was a huge part of first WS championship in 108 years. Cannot and will not dislike him. Gonna be really weird the first few times he comes up against the Cubs though

Would you trade Heyward with his deal for Fowler and his deal right now?

Yes. I don't even think I would debate it very long. This is assuming Heyward is NOT going to opt-out of his deal right? Then it's a pretty easy decision for me. Fowler all the way.

This seems to rely on a LOT of unlikely things happening.

Wait, what? So you actually think Heyward will opt-out of his current contract at some point? Seriously? Okay then...

Since him likely not using any of his opt-out options is predicated Jason Heyward: Really, Really, Really Good Baseball Player remaining in perpetual batting ability limbo, no, I don't think either of those things are probably going to happen.

Meanwhile, is Dexter Fowler: Good Dude Coming off a Career Year at Age 30 more likely to keep being that good, or better than the younger, better at baseball Jason Heyward? No, personally I don't think that's going to happen.

Nothing Dex could do in St Louis will ever be greater or mean more than what he did in Chicago. Dex Fan Forever.

cut to the playoffs this year when dex hits a gapper and rounds the bases, bat still in hand, knee capping Rizzo, Russell, and Bryant

I knew Fowler was going to hit the market, and I knew he would get a 5-year deal. I just didn't want it to be with St. Louis Cardinals. However, once it became official, I just couldn't bring myself to hate the guy. You cannot begrudge a guy who signed a deal with the Cubs, played out the deal, declined the QO, decided the market wasn't playing out for him, came back to the Cubs on a lower money deal to "prove himself" again, won a WS, and then cashed in.

He bet on himself and won.

Period.

Good for him.

I can tell you this though. Dexter Fowler will not mean as much to that Cardinals lineup as he did with the Cubs lineup.

I love Dex. I don't care if he's a Cardinal. I think we saw his best seasons anyways. I'd probably only dislike him a little if he walked us off to eliminate us from the playoffs but even this his backwards walking, look to the dugout thing he did after the game 7 leadoff dong was just too cool and I'm too white to give it justice.

Can't see the Cardinals trading him in the first few months of a five-year deal, but anything is possible.

Why wouldn't he kneecap Baez?
