I'm cool with trading Jorge and trust the front office will get the best player possible. If Wade Davis is that, than he is.

 

Pretty convinced at this point that Soler's chance to break out is as a DH. He sucks in the outfield, and I anticipate his leg injuries will continue any time he gets extended playing time.

Also, every time I have watched Wade Davis on my MLB package the dude is lights out. What am I missing? I get the possible injury thing, but not the talent concern.

That would be my big problem with it, although maybe the market just isn't there for Soler. Davis's arm problem is scary, but velocity, control, and effectiveness were fine when he came back, and since it's only one year you don't need the arm to hold up forever.

 

On the other hand, 10 million for one year of a closer with an injury question is enough question marks for me without getting into the lost opportunity with Soler.

I love the idea of Davis in the pen. I'm just hesitant to give up a valuable trade chip for one year of a reliever. Maybe we can sell them on Clifton's good year?

If he's healthy he's one of the best closers in the game. I am sure Theo did his due dillengence and they believe he is healthy and capable of repeating his past success.

We already have a closer with some potential injury concerns - why give up a guy like Soler to acquire another one?

I just don't see Soler having much value. Decent, but not yet great production, with bad defense and hurt constantly. Unfortunately, I think Davis may bring MORE than just him, even with his forearm stuff.

 

Not a Soler fan, but definitely preferred dealing him for a young SP.

I do know this: If the Cubs make the playoffs this season, Wade Davis will be far more valuable in any postseason run than Jorge Soler. Actually, he will be far more valuable in making the playoffs, too.

i mean i have been one of their most vocal supporters since before theo was even hired and that isn't changing realistically ever. i'm allowed to not like a move (or rumored move).

I think we're trying to keep some payroll flexibility for Harper or Otani or whoever in the coming seasons.

 

This isn't a FA market that we should be spending big on.

I'm pretty worried about trading assets for a closer with one year of control and forearm problems. Obviously they'll look at medicals but still.
