Is it steroids keeping Sammy out? Because didn't Pudge and Bagwell have accusations too? Or are writers really taking the corked bat that seriously? I hate the baseball hall of fame so much....

I guess writers are punishing Sosa more because he was actually caught with a positive test. Bagwell and Pudge were most certainly juicers too but because they were never caught they are being allowed in.

I don't remember Sosa ever being caught positive for 'roids.

Ah, I forgot about that. Still stupid.

A. Jones, Rolen, and Vizquel

No, No, No

Vizquel is probably the closest. He was the best defensive SS for most of his career, but he played in an era of offense. Jones peaked early and faded fast and Rolen missed too much time on the DL. All three would be locks if it were defense only.

I don't think either should be in the Hall, but I don't understand how you can vote for Hoffman and not for Wagner. I especially can't see how the difference can possibly be 74% to 10%. Wagner's rate stats are better than Hoffman's across the board.

Im shocked Hoffman got that close. I really dont pay close attention to the HoF nonsense because it's dumb but jeez.

Pudge Rodriguez in yet Bonds is out.

Because Bonds was a better player when juicing than Pudge. Therefore, there is some doubt about whether Pudge was actually juicing.

I'd expect the lawyer to have a higher standard of "caught" than that.

2018 1st time ballot guys are Chipper, Thome, Vizquel, Andruw Jones, and Rolen......Chipper is a lock, I'd say Thome is a 1st ballot guy too.

Vlad and Hoffman will get in next year and my guess is a class of 4 will be it(plus vet committee?). Edgar will get in on his last ballot. Feel comfortable Bonds and Clemens get in at some point.

My question is on A. Jones, Rolen, and Vizquel......Are they HOFers? I'm not asking sabermetrically(yet). Just wonder if you think any of this group gets in?

With all ballots published from here on out, I think that will increase the number of check marks. I also think a few more of the old timers start to fade off from voting and the newer guys gaining the voting ability will add even a bit more sabermetric feel to things. Which helps get more of this group in.

I am all for 10+ currently eligible guys to get in. But, it is kind of funny watching the sabermetric community literally bully some of these guys ballots. As much as I agree with their thought processes, there is a hell of a lot of smugness with some of them. There's truly not a right or wrong answer to this(outside of Chass for just trying to be a dick). But some of these guys truly do act like their opinion is all that matters.

At this point, I don't have much of a problem with any ballot that uses all 10 votes. Yeah, there are some dumb homer votes in those, but at least the guys doing that are mostly giving those who are deserving a legitimate shot at getting in.

Not that it means anything other than just being a curiosity, but on BR's HOF Monitor, Tim Raines, with 90 points, is the only player voted in by the BBWAA who is under the "likely HOFer" threshold of 100 since Sutter (79) got voted into the hall in 2006. Sutter only played 12 seasons, so he probably gets a discount in that regard. Before that you have to go back to Tony Perez in 2000 who has a pretty paltry 81 points considering he played 23 years. Before that you've got Hoyt Wilhelm being elected in 1985 with 97 points. Before that you've got Lou Boudreau in 1970 with 89 points.

FWIW, the lowest HOF monitor score for any hitter elected by the writers is Rabbit Maranville with just 59 points. The lowest pitcher is Ted Lyons with 65.

in more "mike trout is insane" news

Vladimir Guerrero (first year on the ballot) missed out on the HoF by 15 votes. If Trout is healthy next year, he should surpass Vlad's lifetime fWAR sometime in August.
