underrated favorite of mine was "Cheesehead Cubs Fan." he had some weird meltdown when i made fun of his sig, which was a picture of some sports car photoshopped over a cubs logo. Oh and it had all the car's specs typed out on the sig.

On car forums, that's totally comon. horsefeathers up, but comon

Two of the exact same typos always raises some questions...

It's not that old, but the Cubbie Swagger Western medicine rants were pretty good. Also and related, the you don't get as bad a hang over from "top shelf" liquor.

The not as bad of a hangover thing is absolutely true, but it was his claim that you didn't get as buzzed from the good stuff that was the pants on head crazy part of it.

Can we have more multi-page, vehement discussions about GMOs too?

The Santa thread and the MFer thread are all anyone needs to read to get a full, accurate psychological profile of daBum

"Kids will light up Christmas morning whether they believe you got the presents or Santa did. Do you all not think Jewish kids light up when they get their dradles? They are made of clay you know."

i didn't read too in depth but i do think it's weird how it seemed like people were expecting people of all religions or w/e to do xmas and santa since it's not really about religion at this point

i grew up around a lot of jewish kids (skokie) and none of the jewish kids celebrated christmas in any way whatsoever nor obviously did they do santa

but again i didn't read that deeply so maybe i missed some context on what i did read

Still the single greatest post of all time (Though B kicking it off with his horrifying fast food habits was pretty great, too):

I love how his avatar pic was, inexplicably, the horsefeathering Love Guru poster. And only 17 posts! What a legend.

The shocking thing is how long it seemed to take people to notice it.

Yeah, I think it was sulley bringing it up at random times that really turned it into a legend.

lol, even now thinking about him driving around with a milk carton full of emergency gravy makes me laugh hysterically.

Also, BigBadB cutting up his Blockbuster card and sending it back to them in pieces, you know, to teach them a lesson, is an image I can't get out of my head.

Dude, I didn't send it back to them in pieces. I walked right in the front door and cut it up in front of a line of customers at check out. Did you not read this entire thread? I entered this masterpiece into this contest myself.

HCCF is my favorite poster of all-time.

Quite a group (not all) of shitty teachers we have here.

Not really an old post but there was a couple articles that came out a couple years ago that the Cubs were one of the surprisingly few teams interested in drafting Trout in 09. Anybody have a link to these articles?

The blatant bigotry from hccf and yeti was a black eye during some dark times

I think you mean "black guy"

Did anyone actually like Yeti, or were they just amused that one of the Whites of West Virginia posted here?

I actually met him at the first WBC at Petco. We met up for drinks beforehand with a few other NSBB peeps and then sat together at the game. He seemed alright THEN.

This thread was a fun read knowing what we know now. This wasn't the actually Rizzo trade thread, but created when there were rumors that Padres had Rizzo on the block and the Cubs were amongst the teams interested. Wade Davis is also discussed in the thread.

Some quotes (poster's names withheld to protect the innocent):

Brett for Rizzo? I hope they pass on that. I'm not even completely sold that Rizzo's "in-game" power (can't think of what I want to say, but not his raw power, what he can actually produce) will be better than Jackson's. Even if it is slightly better, and even if Rizzo is a slightly better contact hitter (and that's debatable with a fairly long swing and a K rate that is above 20%), I'm just not sold his offensive package, on paper (which is all we really have to judge by right now, as I won't hold his 153 pro AB's against Rizzo that much), is better than Brett to compensate for Brett's defensive advantage. It's just not a good value move, IMO, particularly for an organization that will have a hole in CF sooner than later and with Szczur looking, on paper, a good 2 years away. I'll be honest, as much as I've railed against an 8 year deal for Fielder, I'd much rather give Fielder that 8 year deal and have Brett in my back pocket, than the other way around.

Other than being younger, whats the difference between Rizzo and LaHair? Is Rizzo really supposed to be that good?

rizzo had cancer, that and the age thing are pretty much the only differences between them.

The age difference is a big deal, but I think Rizzo is closer to a future .800 OPS guy than a future .900 OPS guy.

I hope leadership doesn't develop an unnatural fixation on him.

Quit dicking around and sign Fielder.

$170/7 with an opt-out after year 4.

Rizzo + Kelly + Maybin

for

Garza + Marmol + Byrd + Lake + $

A good bit of the enjoyment of the thread stems from abject denial of just how bad the Cubs system was at that point. Hand wringing about giving up Jackson, Barney or Colvin because that was the best the Cubs had at that point.
