Meaningless games are what they are and ultimately doesn't mean all that much but it still sucks to see your team lose a game with its ace on the mound against some replacement level scrub.

This game is like those final 2 games against the Cardinals where we were cruising but didn't really seize enough opportunities and then something indescribably stupid happened and then it rained runs on us

I mean. Whatever. I'm gonna go do something else

With the caveat that Maddon is way better at his job than I would be, there is a bit of a silver lining to one of our few objectively bad players playing bad/proving they are bad in a meaningless August game, thus making it less likely that they will play (and theoretically play badly) in an October game.

Honestly, I would hate the Pirates even if they weren't in our division and had a history with us. They've started many a beanball war by being upset that their guys unintentionally get hit with pitches. And they've done this while their pitchers continually lead the league in hit batters. They literally base their whole pitching philosophy off of pitching inside. And then they act indignant when it happens to them.

We aren't complaining about him doing it. It just reminded us that we hate the Pirates. We kinda forgot that because they suck and #wearegood. But their players have this inferiority complex with us. And we had forgiven them until we got back in the ring and remembered how douchy they are.

cervelli and cole are dumb, but the pirates are pretty low on my hate list. i kind of feel sorry for them that they're stuck in our division.

It goes much deeper than that. We've already rattled off a pretty extensive list, and there is a lot more. Do you not remember them hitting Jake with a pitch in a playoff game? Or Rodriguez going insane?

at least a water cooler was the only thing Rodriguez hit.

There's only so many options too. Edwards still isn't going back to back games, Grimm and Chapman are the only other late inning options. Pena is bad until proven otherwise in low leverage, Cahill has thrown the previous 2 days, and Zastryzny isn't really any better an option to finish that inning.

Yeah, but I can't help but like the Pirates. I was pretty close to jumping ship and rooting for them when they had Bonds, between them being good and having family from Pittsburgh. Living in the DC area on and off my whole life, we made the trip up to see the Pirates a lot when visiting relatives, and I'll always have a soft spot for those schmoes.

Maddon seems to be a true believer in Wood. Like, at a cultish level.

Yeah, this is going to happen occasionally in the regular season and much less in the playoffs with the staggered schedule. I just hope Montgomery shows enough to take whatever job Travis theoretically has come October.

That'll do it. When's the last time we lost 3 straight? First half?

July 5-9, 5 in a row. After the 81st game, I believe, but before the ASG
