The whole leading the league in hit batsmen but also crying foul play anytime their guys get hit is pretty obnoxious. I don't hate the pirates as a whole, (I mean they've been pretty abysmal until the last couple years) but there are several people in their dugout who I wouldn't mind seeing get hit by an errant bat.

Namely cervelli, harrison, and freaking clint hurdle.

RondonFan always says top 5 worst game of year but when it comes to annoyingness this one might make it for me.

The team has largely played very well and down 6-3 in combination of guy screwing Arrieta in key spots while giving worse pitches to the Pirates bums against Zobrist, Contreras, and KB... as im typing this Zobrist again.. wtf this guy is terrible!

Combine that with KB & Arrieta smoking bombs just foul and Soler's bomb somehow becoming a double while they get 2 oppo bloop bombs somehow in key spots.

Its like deja vu annoyingness screwing us on both ends.

oh look, the outside strike is back.

this guy is abysmal. really would not blame maddon or anybody for melting down on him and getting tossed.

I'm actually annoyed no one has forcefully gotten tossed yet. This is a terrible ump who should be fired after the game

I feel like if this was in the thick of a tight division race we might have seen tempers flare much worse.

Cubs seem to be just chillin right now and deciding what ways to celebrate David Ross.

Yesterday I said I have felt very little emotion about losing these games. I feel like a hypocrite because this game has annoyed the horsefeathers out of me. I'm not like depressed that we are likely to lose. I feel like the umpires flat out stole this one. Plus the pirates are stupid and have hit Jake pretty well the last 3 times they faced them. I liked the narrative that the Pirates can't beat us and can't score on Jake better

The most obnoxious thing about the strike calls is that they are made even more ridiculous by handedness. The K calls to Zobrist and Bryant were from LHP so they never had a piece of the plate. Cervelli's multiple pitches both were in the zone for the entire flight of the ball, you don't even need framing or to be fooled to call it a strike.

they should put tripp gibson on a crew with cb bucknor, laz diaz and angel hernandez, just so that the worst umpires are isolated to one series and you know going in that the umpiring will be infuriating throughout the series.

Yeah.. i'm not going to be too pissed about losing any individual game but this one annoyed the hell out of me. When Harrison hit his single off Wood for two more to come in I yelled at out loud you gotta be kidding.

First time i showed emotion in a play that was causing us to lose in a while.

Preferably in a Cardinals vs Pirates WC game where they go 17 innings with multiple game deciding plays screwed up on both sides for the umps to see both fan bases go insane..

So regarding Jake. He had good stuff tonight, clearly got squeezed a number of times, had at least 3 weak contact bloops fall in for hits that I counted Overall didn't pitch that bad. But he gave up 6 ER and I feel like I've been saying "well he didn't pitch bad" to defend games where he gave up more than 2 runs a lot.

Is he just exceedingly unlucky this year, should I just accept that he's not going to have a 1.73 ERA every year and 2.84 is still very good, or should I be mildly concerned that jake hasn't been the unbeatable monster he was last year and occasionally lapses into moments of poor control or that he isn't throwing his devastating cutter or what

I need NSBB to tell me how I should feel because many of you are either baseball smarter, more level headed or both

2015 Jake is not here, not even first half. Unless his slider and/or command improve, that Jake is not coming back. 2016 Jake is plenty good, but he's also going to be prone to having days where things don't go like they should. For a point of comparison, 2015 Lester gave up 4+ runs in 8 different starts and was still a 5 win pitcher. They struggle in different ways, but in terms of putting their quality/mortality into place, it's a helpful analogy.
