So regarding Jake. He had good stuff tonight, clearly got squeezed a number of times, had at least 3 weak contact bloops fall in for hits that I counted Overall didn't pitch that bad. But he gave up 6 ER and I feel like I've been saying "well he didn't pitch bad" to defend games where he gave up more than 2 runs a lot.

Is he just exceedingly unlucky this year, should I just accept that he's not going to have a 1.73 ERA every year and 2.84 is still very good, or should I be mildly concerned that jake hasn't been the unbeatable monster he was last year and occasionally lapses into moments of poor control or that he isn't throwing his devastating cutter or what

I need NSBB to tell me how I should feel because many of you are either baseball smarter, more level headed or both

2015 Jake is not here, not even first half. Unless his slider and/or command improve, that Jake is not coming back. 2016 Jake is plenty good, but he's also going to be prone to having days where things don't go like they should. For a point of comparison, 2015 Lester gave up 4+ runs in 8 different starts and was still a 5 win pitcher. They struggle in different ways, but in terms of putting their quality/mortality into place, it's a helpful analogy.

That is helpful. I think that despite all the articles I've read explaining the difference between 2015 and 2016 Jake, I needed someone flat out tell me he's not likely to be back but that this Jake is good in his own lesser way

Either Bryant goes deep here or he doesn't. There's no in between.

Appreciate you forcing the RBI single but save the energy for Heyward.

what he said was actually (probably inadvertently) true though lol
