I think it was Olney who wrote after the world series that Bryant could become this generation's Derek Jeter. His peak is/will be better than Jeter but the point is he might be the face of MLB right now since the overall best player plays on a shitty team and after everyone's bedtime. Plus, if we compare actual faces, KB wins in a landslide over Trout's tinyface.

All of our Cubs legends have been legends because they've had great seasons on bad teams and they succeeded individually despite the mediocrity around them. Now we have a guy like KB who is our actual gamebreaker except he does it on 90-100 win teams and he wins a world series in his first full year

the fact that he figured out how to be a good defender and then was like "i wanna do it at multiple positions oh yeah im a godlike baserunner lol" is unfair

and when it looked like he might get figured out by big league pitching, he's like LOL NOPE, makes an adjustment and cuts his strikeouts lower than they even were in the minors while losing nothing offensively

fwiw, only 2 players have three of the big four awards that KB has won in consecutive seasons.

Trout and Canseco have MILB POY, ROY, and MVP. No doubt both of those guys would have had a great shot at the Golden Spikes if they had gone to college.

MILB POY didn't exist before 1981, but if it had, Dawson would probably be in that group to have 3 of 4. His final season in the minors in AA/AAA he hit .352/.413/.658, 28 HR and 73 RBI.

Fred Lynn may be in that group as well. His final season in the minor leagues in AAA he hit .282/.368/.489 with 21 HR and 68 RBI.

I think his dad is a big part of that, in one of the parade interviews he said his dad had already talked to him about what to do to be better for next year.

I also liked how his dad was pointing at the World Series logo on his shirt during Kris' interview tonight.

So that idiot New York writer either

a) only paid attention to Murphy's stats against the Mets

b) completely ignored defense

c) only looked at batting average, RBI and strikeouts

Also, just thinking about it, KB was about 4 feet from winning the World Series MVP, too (with that fly ball to the wall that Almora tagged up on.)

Its a linear progression. World Series MVP is next year.

Yeah, it's pretty neat. His baseline Cubs bio is: MVP, World Champion.

And we are guaranteed of at least five more years with him (and most of the rest of the team, too).

The Cubs, Dodgers and Nationals have won 11 of the last 12 "Big Four" awards for the NL. The only exception is deGrom winning ROY for the Mets in 2014.

In a further monopoly of these awards here were the "finalist" teams for the Big 4 awards this season:

MOY: Dodgers, Cubs, Nationals

ROY: Dodgers, Nationals, Dodgers

Cy Young: Nationals, Cubs, Cubs

MVP: Cubs, Nationals, Dodgers
