The Cardinals and Mets start a 3 game series tonight, who should we be cheering for? Mets to make the WC tighter and to wrap the division up sooner or Cardinals to give the Mets a death blow to avoid them in the DS?

Yeah, root for the Mets for sure. The Mets aren't going to make the playoffs, but them dragging the Cardinals down with them is ideal.

As much as I hate STL, and that is a LOT, I am enjoying the Mets' collapse after how shitty their fans were last year (yes, Cubs fans outside this board probably would've been just as bad, don't care)

Yeah, but I really want both to miss the playoffs and a Mets sweep is the best way to further that goal right now.

Oh, definitely. I wasn't making a value judgment on who to root for.

The last half inning in the Cardinals game was pretty hilarious. Wainwright lost his glove on a tag that should've been an out, Garcia boots a ball at SS and then a 3 run homer for the mets.

A's currently doing an admirable job lowering our Magic Number. Thank you for letting my favorite team sweep you, and for being on the verge of taking a series from our rivals.

And for Addison Russell, I guess

scott servais's handling of edwin diaz is kind of appalling.

I disagree, he was a starter his whole career until halfway through his season in AAA this year, he can handle the workload. Plus since he's been a closer (the start of August), Servais has only used him once in a 1+ inning situation. Not to mention, the only other relievers he had at his disposal were Arquimedes Caminero who has a 5.68 ERA over his previous 6.1 innings in relief work and Pat Venditte who pitched 3 innings the previous night, so he probably wasn't available. In a one run game while you're in the middle of a playoff hunt against your division leader, I think putting Diaz in there for two innings with those limited options is the right call. His arm isn't going to fall off, and he's been the best strikeout reliever in all of baseball. He has a 16.3 K/9. That's better than Chapman, Kimbrel, Miller, and Betances.

Servais only had one reliable option if he wanted to beat the Rangers, and it was using Edwin Diaz.

he's had multiple stretches where he was pitching almost every day, and he's also gone 30-35 semi-regularly. i wouldn't want my team doing that to him in a year where the playoff expectancy has been weak for months.

you should probably re-check his game logs because I don't see that at all. he's thrown 30+ 6 out of 37 appearances, and I don't see an occasion where he's been used more than 2 consecutive days.

the other 4 guys logan mentioned have 10 combined. he has 6 despite having far few appearances than any of them. 30+ pitches every 6th time out seems like a lot for an awesome young pitcher. there was also a recent stretch where he pitched 8 of 11 days.

but i guess it's not as bad as i first though

Dodgers were sown at Colorado 8-2 going into the 8th. They scored 3 in the 8th, and with two outs in the ninth and a run already in, Andrew Toles hit a Grand Slam. Dodgers up 10-8 headed to the bottom.

Gotta love Coors.
