[expletive] [expletive] [expletive]. The Cubs can go [expletive] themselves in the ass. THIS is what I get for my 3 game series this weekend?

I'm pretty disappointed (clearly) - ScrubMD, this is me angry.

you get to see the best pitcher on the cubs and the best post-break pitcher in the national league. you poor thing.

Montgomery and Hammel don't really excite me (sorry). I'm not really that angry, but I was really close to Arrieta/Hendricks.

Well you will be in Colorado, go smoke some weed and enjoy the games

how about we not look at the order of the playoff rotation like an olympic pedestal and instead look at it like an offensive line?

or defensive line. whichever teamwork metaphor you wanna use.

How does that help the discussion of what the playoff rotation would be?

I know it sucks for those of you in Denver but I'm glad Arrieta and Hendricks don't have to deal with pitching there.

...but...

That and Hendricks seems like the perfect Coors Field pitcher. No HRs and heavy on the groundballs. His stuff will play there better than most anyone I can think of apart from maybe knuckleballers.

I don't think there is any perfect pitcher for Coors. Part of the problem, other than the ball flying out of the park, is that the thin air affects spin and movement on pitches. A guy like Hendricks, who relies a lot on movement, might lose what makes him a good pitcher. And, sinkers are affected pretty heavily, if I recall correctly. I think sliders and cutters are the pitches that work the best in Coors. A sinker/changeup guy like Hendricks might not be able to be his normal ground ball/weak contact self.

Any consideration to giving Hendricks game 2? I think if you are definitely giving Hendricks a chance in the playoff rotation (and he has more than earned it), I think you have to potentially allow him to pitch at home. All the starters have been amazing at home (Lackey the only starter with a Wrigley ERA over 2.01....and it's 2.47), but Hendricks has been really good in Wrigley for the last 2 years.

With homefield throughout the NL the most likely scenario......I'd think long and hard about:

Arrieta

Hendricks

Lester

Lackey/Hammel

Win that series in 3 or 4, it sets up Hendricks again to start Game 2 of the NLCS at home. And then again, in Wrigley in Game 6. I also like Lester in Game 3 (and potentially game 7 NLCS) because I think Game 3 is typically a very important game, and he's been there before...blah blah blah.

I thought that the high spin rate pitches like sliders and curves don't work as well there, and change-up pitchers were desirable, but I might well be making that up.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-jon-lester-rotation-cubs-bits-spt-0912-20160911-story.html

The Cubs adjusted their rotation so that Jon Lester is lined up to start the first game of the National League playoffs.

Lester will make his next start Wednesday in St. Louis in his first of four remaining regular-season starts. Left-hander Mike Montgomery, who originally was told he would pitch Wednesday, will start Thursday against the Brewers.

Manager Joe Maddon would not specifically say the switch was made with the playoffs in mind.

"We liked the idea of Jon pitching in St. Louis more," Maddon said Sunday. "That's all that was about. He felt pretty good staying on his regular turn this time around, knowing we might do something differently the next time. We decided to go this way."

This is all about sweeping the filthy cardinals.

I like the idea of a rotation that consists of:

Lester

Hendricks

Arrieta

Lackey.

Yep, this should be the rotation for the first round. And ideally that series doesn't make it to Lackey because the Cubs won the first 3.

Well Maddon isn't saying that moving this around for the playoffs, maybe he's being coy, he isn't usually.

I don't know if the order matters all that much really.

Pretty sure they mentioned there would be a bullpen game on Thursday. My guess is Hammel just goes on Friday.

Yeah, I believe the bullpen game was caused by Hendricks moving to Monday to line him as the Game 2 starter. The only change is Zastryzny now starting instead of Montgomery.

I don't know the stat, but doesn't Jake come out filthy with extra rest? I remembers seeing some God mode numbers from him on those occassions. I don't think the extra days for Jake to wait will affect him in anyway other than positive. He''s as mentally tough as the come and won't let time off make him rusty, only stronger.
