The only thing I remember from that series is that I think Soto hit a HR, Lilly throwing his glove and Rich Hill giving up a leadoff bomb in Game 3.

We talked about this a couple of weeks ago, but also Lou lifting Z after 80-something pitches in game 1 when he was cruising and saying he wanted to save Z to pitch on 3 days rest in game 4.

Somebody said in the game thread of the first game of the 2008 season that at least Z was nice and rested after his last start.

Cause I have no life, here is that post:

What's the magic number to clinch home field for the NLCS?

I believe 11

10 to clinch HFA + 11 to win the World Series

New magic number is 21.

Cubs clichéd a better record than the Mets and Yankees today, which really only means that the Cubs can't open the playoffs in New York.

You know that old saying, it's a real truism. Clinch by the ides of sep and the big apple you will not visit.

A bit overused but true.

During their weekend-long bender, Cubs clinched a better record than the Giants, Astros, Mariners, Tigers, Blue Jays and Orioles.

With last night's win and Dodger loss, the Cubs clinched NLDS home field advantage (since they won the season series with the Dodgers).

So NLDS Game 1 will be at Wrigley.

It is conceivable, not likely, but possible that the Cubs clinch not only HFA but dominance over every team in baseball (Texas has a slightly better record than washington) before any other team clinches a playoff spot. Not division, playoff spot! On Thurday, if the Rangers and Nats lose and the Cubs, Giants, Mets, Dirty Birds and Astros win, that will be the case.

In other words, the Cubs are as much better than the playoff field as the playoff teams are better than the field.

Nats lose and Cubs clinch HFA through the NL Playoffs before any other team clinches a playoff spot (Rangers are up 3-0 with a magic number of 1 so should clinch a spot in the next hour or so)

The last magic number, which doesn't give us anything other than pride is clinching best record in baseball. I believe the magic number for that is 2.

Edit: whoops it looks like the Rangers did clinch tonight before the Cubs my bad
