Man, I'm not scared of the Cardinals at all; I just don't want them to even know the joy of just getting to the playoffs.

i'm not scared of them any more than i'm "scared" of any other opponent. i just really don't want them to know the joy of beating us in the playoffs.

Yeah, pretty much this.

Though I can't decide if I'd rather have them lose every single game from here out or build up a solid lead on the wild card only to blow it in the last week of the season. Both would be delicious.

I was practically salivating at the prospect of facing STL last year because I knew we were much better than them by the time the series happened. I still think we are much better, but there's definitely a 'just don't screw it up' flavor to it now that we would be considered favorites in that series. And also, I just don't want those bastards to make it to the playoffs.

I don't need any extra incentive to have my stomach doing flips for a playoff game. I think I took years off my life in the NLDS last year. I never want to see the Cardinals in the playoffs again. If we faced them 5 times in the playoffs and won 4 of them I would still be so pissed about the one time they beat us. I never want to know what it is like to lose a playoff series to those people.

Honestly, I would care a lot less if the Cubs won a recent World Series. Those mouthbreathers gloating about 1908 etc after beating us would be unbearable.

yeah. i mean, we got our taste of beating them in glorious dong heavy fashion. it doesn't need to be revisited and possibly tarnished.

It would be awful nice for this series at Wrigley to be remembered as the four game sweep that buried the Cards in the WC race. It can be like an annual August tradition.

Cardinals Useless By September

dream scenario

NLDS - beat Marlins (kill the Marlins have never lost a playoff series thing, '03 payback)

NLCS - beat Giants (kill the even year thing)

World Series - who cares

also nice to avoid Washington and New York's rotations (though I think New York is already out of it)

Dodgers have tied the Giants for the NL West lead. I think I would rather the Cubs play the Giants in the NLCS than NLDS even if Bumgarner is burned in the WC game.

But what if Jose Fernandez could eliminate them for us? I'm not sure who I want where yet but if the Fish make it in that has the potential for being cool. They could knock out pretty much any team in a one gamer, while also burning Fernandez.

Obviously anything could happen, and the Marlins probably should've won the season series with us, but any scenario where the Cubs don't face the Giants or Mets sounds pretty cool.

The GIants are going to be lucky to make the playoffs. Running out the likes of Matt Cain and Angel Pagan is quite stupid.

Is this the 2nd time in a few weeks he's taken a no-hitter thru 5-7 innings?

Back in mid-July versus the Giants, iirc. He was never going to be great, but it's really too bad he went in the toilet when he signed with us.

Mets getting blanked today, and about to be swept by the D'Backs at home which will drop them to .500. Wonder if a head or two will roll after this one. What a difference a year makes.... heck, even a month, when they last played us in Citi.... Couldn't happen to a nicer franchise.
