So I'm officially worried about Rondon now

Maddon said today that they didn't use him Sunday because just warmed up hard two days in a row.

If there were something wrong with him, why wouldn't they have just DLed him instead of sending Grimm down?

Was it David that linked it earlier? Rondon warmed up hard for two straight days, so Joe considered him out yesterday. I don't think it's that concerning. We just haven't needed him.

Seems strange but I mean ok. It's great that things are going so well that "not pitching 2nd best reliever enough" is the biggest gripe

Yeah, if he was truly hurt, it would've been real easy to DL him for a week instead of banishing Grimm back to Iowa.

Washington lost. SF lost. Cards are down to Cincy again.

It's amazing to me that STL has made up no ground and yet it feels like they've been playing CIN and ATL forever now.

serious question, will we do champagne celebration twice (wild card and division) or just once? does anyone recall how other teams have done it lately?

Until tonight, Strop and Chapman both have only pitched once since 8/2. There was one game Rondon really should have been used and it was on a day where Maddon considered him out, because of heavy usage warming up the two days prior. We are just kicking teams' asses and our starting pitching has been amazing. It's the benefit of being really freaking good. We don't even need to use our Bullpen of Death. Edited by Duke Silver

Yes but the Pirates are winning so they may keep lingering at 13.5 back. Pesky Pirates just won't go away

I feel like I saw some team do a small celebration after clinching up a playoff berth and the big celebration after clinching the division.

I think teams in similar situations have typically waited to bust out the champagne for the division clincher.

i mean it seemed like we did like 3 within 14 days last year so nothing would really shock me

Can't remember but I'm guessing that the division will be a near lock when the WC is clinched so we'd probably wait to celebrate. Then again this is a team that likes to celebrate so much they built an official party room in their clubhouse so horsefeathers it they will go nuts for both.

Some teams have done both and some haven't if my memory is correct.

On the one hand teams who are way in front usually just celebrate the division, but on the other hand were not like other teams. Meaning: we do what we want.

Yeah my concern was just that the next time we need to use him in a close game he's rusty. But then again we have 100% playoff odds so who cares?

yeah it's hard to tell, they celebrated like some teams celebrate a World Series win after a loss on the day after they technically clinched the 2nd wild card, and also celebrate almost as hard as people celebrate clinching a division after every win so who knows.
