this Olympics has all the makings of a colossal failure.

They always feel that way, but this was feels like it's taking it to a whole new level.

were they this much of a mess before sochi?

i don't remember hearing about things being this disastrously bad before that.

Sochi wasn't nearly this bad in the lead-up. There were clear concerns about Russia's human rights and concerns about the absurd amount of money they were spending, but in terms of the stuff that directly affected the athletes it was relatively uneventful.

I'm confused...is there stuff before Sochi here?

Sorry, misunderstood your question. I just thought you were asking if there were problems in the lead-up to Sochi.

i just remember the absurdity of it potentially not even being cold enough for winter games, the stray dog snipers, the bathrooms with unfinished plumbing, toilets with no stalls, etc.

I think most of the problems in Olympic build ups prior to Sochi were more political in nature. Less about facilities and disease.

Not nearly on this scale, but weren't some of the stadiums/facilities not even finished for the Olympics in China a few years ago? Or at least there were rumors they weren't going to be done in time.

facilities are always a question.

This is why so many people were saying, "we hear this same stuff every year but like magic everything is fine by the time the games start." But the problem with that is not many games are held in impoverished third world countries, which is what Brazil is for the most part.

So glad Chicago didn't get it, but still want to mock the IOC for picking Rio over Chicago due to how things are turning out.

These last years would have been hell if Chicago had gotten them. But I'd be trilled to have all the infrastructure improvements going forward.

I wouldn't be thrilled at having declared bankruptcy a couple years ago.

Olympics held in the US are typically profitable. I believe Lake Placid is the exception to the rule.

Meh, a successful businessman was running it, so hard to say.

Gonna have to see the math with this one.
