I think the hitters quit swinging because his pitches were [expletive]. He wasn't able to get them to swing because his pitches never looked like strikes. He was missing low too often, way low. And he just wasn't fooling guys. If you look at his last two games, hitters have been swinging more against him, but the gains have been because they are swinging more at pitches out of the zone, which they had all but stopped doing. His swinging strike % has been up the last few games, too. I don't think he is easier to hit now.

I'm encouraged, and think the homers are a blip on the radar.

that certainly makes me feel better. thanks.

Yeah, I wouldn't suggest he is fixed. I mean, the results have still kinda sucked. Maybe this is the New Jake that gives up home runs when he is trying not to walk guys. But, the changes in how batters are attacking him haven't really been due to what is going on inside the zone. Their in-zone swing rates and in-zone contact rates have remained steady all year and are nearly exactly where they were at last year. The changes mainly were due to stuff going on outside the zone. And those rates are coming back to where he was last year. Maybe he just replaced not having command with being eminently hittable, and he sucks for a different reason. But, I think the data would suggest that's not really true, since guys are swinging and missing a lot still.

I'm guessing our BaseRuns or whatever measures sequencing luck has us in the top 3 unluckiest teams in baseball. Seems like we get this [expletive] 3 times a week

Good looking out, looks like I was half right. Must have had insane good luck offensively early in the season.
