what's weird is our offense has scored nothing against a scrub pitcher and people's choice to be reactionary is about a need for a starter after arrieta gives up a 2 out homer to a guy with 28 home runs in a band box of a park. just so happens to be the inning he struggled a bit and gave up a couple baserunners. could easily be working on 6 innings of one run ball.

YAY JAVY!

It's more concerning to me when the staff ace fails to pitch past the 6th inning in 6 of his last 7 starts than the offense having a bad game.

He's either going to figure it out by the end of the year (I lean to this side) and get closer to his old self or he's not. It's not worth worrying about because there's nothing we can do about it. At least he's not hurt, so there's a decent enough chance he'll rebound.

And bringing up the Chapman trade like the cost for the type of starter it would take to actually upgrade this rotation is even like 1/10 of that is pretty dumb too. Maybe if there were any of that type of pitcher available as a rental, but the pitchers out there worth going after are either on contending teams or under control for a long time and going to cost a lot more than Chapman did. A hell of a lot more.

Objectively, he's been better over the last three, though. He's only walked 4 guys in these past three games. He hadn't given up that few in a three-game stretch since his first three starts of the season. That's been his major problem. His control. He's been beat bad by the long ball in two of these last three, though. That hasn't really been a problem for him at all until recently. I'll be more concerned if that trend continues. But. he's corrected his original issues.

wouldn't that really just perfectly align with the narrative about his struggles, though? 2015 and early 2016 jake succeeded by getting hitters to swing at pitches out of the zone. the hitters finally quit swinging and jake thus walked too many to succeed. then jake reacted by throwing more strikes, and as such gave up more hard contact.

Good Grimm being back would give us an absolutely monstrous bullpen

it still makes me sad that ramirez wasted his mojo on 2014. it was damn good. sad for him, i mean.

Is that actually true or has Jake just had more trouble commanding his pitches?

I don't think this is really another Marmol case

was zach duke one of the pittsburgh guys the 08 team used to pummel the way this team pummels the reds?

I believe so, along with Maholm and Gorzellany and I want to say the revered Ian Snell

Sure was.

Robin getting away with letting an already gassed Gonzalez face Dex and Bryant for a 4th time irrationally annoyed me.

Yeah it's too bad, he might have had more talent that anyone in the bullpen minus Rondon and now Chapman obviously
