Think everyone needs to re-group....

1. A 7-9 of Strop, Rondon, and Chapman is pretty damn good .

2. If the Cubs hadn't traded for him, there's a good chance another playoff team would have, and we'd have to face him.

3. We only have to put up with the sorry spouse beater for 3 months.

I will root for him on the field, and hope he continues to be lights out. Off the field, he can go to hell.

Not sure if this has been posted (I'm sure it has) but the hate for chapman is unreal. I've never seen anything like this in Chicago sports. It's pathetic, and it's mostly female reporters trying to bolster their name, or someone like Dan Bernstein trying to save face. This sucks.

Read the link. It's got direct quotes from the girlfriend, as well as accounts from the Police. I am in no way, shape or form defending someone who committed DV, I truly don't think Chapman touched her. It looks like he and her got into it because she had his phone in her hand. Did he grab her and take his phone?

This is a female who wa suspicious of her "Star Pitcher husband" cheating on her. She didn't leave her child alone in the house while Chapman went and let out his anger in the garage. The girlfriends brother broke up whatever occurred, and there were other people there.

You think her brother would let somebody get away with someone hitting/choking/pushing/anything towards his sister? I mean I sure as hell wouldn't.

People need to read up on this instead of trying to push their own agendas.

He's on the Cubs now. Not much that can be done. I'm not gonna root for him to fail, even as I acknowledge he's a garbage person. Hopefully he does his job well and is better person now than he was in the past.

If that makes me a terrible person, then I guess I suck.

Why? And bringing up an old post of mine, when I replied to someone calling me a fairy, which in this sites terms is equivalent to what I rhymed a word with? Get out of here

Maybe we should start a donations thing, send $x to a local women's shelter everytime he appears in a game ...

You must be CEO of your PR company.

Such a CEO (or PR employee) would be taking that idea to Chapman however possible, have him volunteer at women's shelters, and have him write about the harms of violence and his volunteer experiences at The Player's Tribune - ESPECIALLY since this is a contract year and domestic violence is a significant issue right now. And maybe get him a translator that turns 'I don't remember the specifics' into 'I don't want to discuss the specifics'.

Also - I'm a little upset at your willingness to deride my reaction to the trade.

I'm repeating myself from earlier, but characterizing Chapman as someone who has committed domestic violence, and is therefore a bad person, does not require more than widely agreed on facts. He put his hands around her neck in an argument, shot a gun in the garage in frustration, and hurt his hand punching a car window in anger. Domestic violence does not require a certain level of bruising to be damaging and despicable behavior.

How do we know this is fact? I know she initially said it before recanting, but has anyone else backed this up? Did Chapman admit to it? If it's just her, why are we taking her word as gospel? I don't claim to have done a ton of reading on the topic, but unless we have other witnesses agreeing, then blindly swallowing what either party says is very dangerous.

That post is in reply to someone calling you homophobic when you called Daniel Murphy a fairy: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=439&p=32370#p32370

Yea the poster said he's about as homophobic as you. And I didn't know a thing about Daniel Murphy or his comments.

And in regards to your long post above, I'm not saying there's any level to DV. I truly don't think he choked her. And the girlfriends brother was the one who broke the whole thing up. I am beyond against a man putting his hands on a woman in any shape or form that's not loving.

To add, if his girlfriend and her brother were also from Cuba, why would they fight back knowing that w/o Chapmans money they'd likely go back?

Freyr, I'm not going to come down too harshly on you because I was where you are now before doing a 180 on the whole thing. But just think about this -- they had an argument in a house full of their friends and family. In front of her brother Chapman put his hands on her neck and forced her against a wall. Could you imagine someone doing that to someone you loved? In front of their sibling? How little respect does he actually have for this woman, someone he is supposed to love and protect?

Now, even if he had done all of this with zero witnesses around, its still bad. Very, very bad. But he still did it knowing full well that her family and his were there watching/listening. Talk about a lack of self control, human decency.. both. Even if she instigated the fight and hit him first he is a hulking professional athlete and there were plenty of people there he could have asked to help intervene or calm her down. But nope, he put his hand around her throat and pushed her against a wall. With her daughter in the house. And then fired a shotgun 8 times in his house. And after all of that, he still shows very little remorse, if any at all. No, he didn't beat her to within an inch of her life, but she still probably felt that she was.

given everything we know, the mental gymnastics required to think Chapman didn't put his hands around her neck look pretty silly.

The girlfriend isn't from Cuba. She's an ex-escort that he met and got pregnant. Do your research
