This happened that last series in St. Louis, too, right? We had a stupid loss in the first game that the bullpen fucked up. And then we came back and handed them a couple losses. Time to do that again. Except really make them pay this time. Two RD Games.

I haven't been this pissed off all season. God, I hate the [expletive] Cardinals. 11.5 up. 11.5 up. 11.5 up. I need to keep reminding myself right now.

Losing to these mediocre slime balls feels like 2 losses

I thought Almora should have tried for 3rd on his double in the 9th. Does anyone else think so too?

If he had really busted it out of the box, maybe, but he took a couple steps to get to full speed and didn't have a shot after that.

Losses to these idiots always piss me off more, and the red ass crap Matheny/Molina/Garcia pulled really threw gasoline on it for me.

Also why didn't Coghlan take off too?

Some dumb ass baserunning all around.

Hard to fault Almora for that, he read the ball was getting by Molina, didn't anticipate it bouncing off the ump's leg right back to him.

Yeah. Seeing the replay, Almora made the right read. Still have no idea what Coghlan was doing.

I know, my first thought after Almora was called out was "oh damn well at least we still have a RISP"

After cooling down for a while, I'm not as mad at Almora. I'm still mad at Russell for swinging at ball four, and at Coghlan for not taking second, but mostly that Rosenthal was giving the game away and we couldn't take it.

The upshot is that dumb horsefeathers Matheny probably sees this as a success for Rosenthal and will keep using him.

I tried to explain to my nephew why I liked Almora's decision and that Cogs was the one who really fucked up on that play but he just didn't get it. Oh well, he's still a kid who never played much baseball so I guess I can see why he doesn't get it. He gets too emotional over losses, though. I hate losing to the Cards as much as anyone but in a 162 game season even the best teams of all time are going to lose a lot.

why are people upset with Coghlan? he ultimately made the right read. this isn't little league where you can just run when the ball is thrown to a different base.

Huh? He should've been watching the ball and when it hit the dirt looked to see if Almora was gonna go for 3rd. As soon as he saw Almora was going he should've broke for 2B.

yeah, coghlan did nothing wrong. the ball didn't go anywhere and he didn't run. that's the right decision.

Well yeah, in a vacuum a runner on 1B probably shouldn't be going for 2B 99% of the time on that ball in the dirt/where it bounced/ended up, but when the runner on 2B goes for 3B he should've taken off on seeing that.

no he should not have, because once you see the ball has not gotten past the catcher and therefore cannot run, you don't just reverse course and go to 2nd. He would have been even more delayed in going than Almora was and a very easy target for an out.

no way. he's watching the ball first, runner at 2B second. he reads the ball ending up by Molina so he probably doesn't give a thought to looking at 2nd. I'm not saying Almora was wrong, but what Coghlan did was right
