Did you hear the one about the team that swept a division rival? Goes a little something like this:

Us. It was us who did that. For the second time this year.

Now we face off against the Cardinals. We'll be sending this toothy grinned dude against them:

Rumor has it that John Lackey crowns a new tooth every time he earns a win. John Lackey will be looking to earn his 8th tooth this season. He presently has a 9.3 K/9, the highest it's ever been in his career, probably because he's receiving the Cubs version of Cardinal pixie dust. It's called: Being good at baseball and playing on a good team that is better than everyone else. Lackey has a 2.3 fWAR, 9th best in the National League and 1.1 MORE than what this guy has:

Here is Jaime Garcia looking like he was just told he has to face the Cubs tomorrow and immediately nursing the migraine that immediately occurred in his brain because he knows he's not going to survive long enough to see the end of the game... because he's gonna get pulled after a deep donging by our guys. He's been remarkably average this season, and he's been good at limiting home runs, but we all saw what happened in Saturday's game.

Rizzo and Bryant are having fun toying with the opposition in their own private home run derby. Oh, also, Willson Contreras did a thing that was pretty neat, I guess. If hitting a dong in your first MLB at bat is a pretty neat thing.

I've enjoyed this winning streak, it would be a shame if it ended prematurely. Until then...

I predicted the Ross homer on Saturday. My wife predicted the Addison homer yesterday. I shall let you all know if we make any predictions on this one. Try not to wear out your F5 button.

We've outscored our opponents by 171 runs this year (double any other team). We've given up 193 runs this year.

Let's line those numbers up in this series, eh?

What's the record for consecutive HR to begin a career? It can't be more than two, right?

It shall be Willson's.

An aggregate score of something like 26-4 would be cool.

I think Lackey has started the first game of all 3 Cardinal series. It's like we're just rubbing their stupid faces in it.

"It" being HIS stupid face?

Just looking at some of the Cardinals internet reactions to this series, over the last year their perception of things has changed:

April 2015 - Yeah the Cubs are going to be scary, good for them but we still run this division

October 2015 - Good season Cubs but this is the postseason now, its our time to shine and yours to fall on your faces

April 2016 - Should be a good season but I am not convinced the Cubs are ready to win this division, can't wait to get our shots at them

June 2016 - Mother horsefeathers we have to play the horsefeathering Cubs again? FML we can't fall too much farther behind the Wild Card

its okay cards fans

at least you have football season to look forward to

oh wait

They also have basketball... I mean hockey I guess.

STLFC (soccer) is about as mediocre as the Cardinals right now, and they play in the rapidly bloating 3rd division of US Soccer.

The Logan is in my good graces right now. His run of games is getting awfully close to surpassing Butters' and Mojo's. Maybe I'm just Dong Drunk from tonight. But, this was a very enjoyable weekend. If The Logan leads us to a sweep of the Cards, too...

1) I wasn't in your good graces before? :(

2) I've got a few more games before I'm in Butters/Mojo territory. I'm currently 4-1 (not sure why the game thread starters thread says I'm 2-2, this is my 2nd turn around starting threads so I haven't lost my 2nd game yet). Butters and soccer10k each have 6 wins. Mojo has 7.

3) I'm just glad I have a winning record. 13 of the 16 members who have started game threads have .500 records or better. That alone speaks volumes as to how good the Cubs have been this season.

Haha... I meant more so than before. And, yeah, those records are nice, but their runs didn't feature a Willson Dong on his first pitch seen in the big leagues. It's not all about quantity of wins.

Much respect to Logan for the streak, but

a) Who puts the Cardinals TV station in the Game Thread title?

b) And among those people, who would put that FIRST?

I don't care which local station St Louis fans will turn to in order to watch their team get beat down.

I've heard talk of Rizzo's struggles against leftys earlier this year.... he is now up to .797 OPS against them for the season after being somewhere in the .500's about a month ago.

besides hockey and Cards, all they have left is college sports

that's probably the goofiest lineup we can put together at this point, and it works

I think Szczur and Ross being in there would increase the goofiness, even with as good as Ross has been.
