How long before we read or hear the magical statement "Clayton Richard DFA"?

I don't think its going to happen yet. First of all, there are only 2 lefties in the pen, him and Wood. Wood seems to be viewed as the '6th starter' so if Richard is DFA'd and a starter goes down, we have no lefties in the pen. For whatever reason, managers all feel compelled to have lefties in the pen even if that lefty is bad and can't get lefties out.

As far as Iowa goes, Concepcion and Zastryzny are options but neither are on the 40 man. Giovanni Soto is on the 40 man but isn't exactly lighting it up.

i was really hoping this would make my morning drive

and then that would get ruined by that one caller that doesn't know anything about baseball thinking its a horrible move

Perhaps we're waiting for Matusz to clear waivers and refuse his assignment so that we can sign him on the cheap instead of making a claim and being on the hook for a prorated $3.9M.

Or maybe they actually like Richard.

I realize after last night and this I'm putting myself close to a definitely unenviable position on the Clayton Richard Bandwagon, but...

He's the last pitcher in our bullpen, with a 3.34 FIP in his small sample size of nine innings. 17% LD/16% hard hit % rate against a .432 BAPIP and a 45% strand rate. He's not visually appealing because he doesn't strike anyone out, but he gets groundballs (67% this year, 59% last year in 42 innings), and lefties wOBAed .240 against him last year. Maybe let him hit double digits in innings for the year before we start screwing with our 40 man to bring up Gerardo Concepcion and his unsustainably low BAPIP.

I'm with you on Richard over Concepcion.

But not over Matusz.

What's the point of that? Do they get to trade him now?

Its possible. But not that likely, in my mind. The only way he gets dealt is if a team really wants him and feels he'll get claimed before he gets to them.

My guess is he goes unclaimed and is signed to a minor league deal by a contender, hopefully us.

The Clayman has become the most predictable hurler in baseball. Don't know if there's another guy in the bigs the does exactly as expected every single time he's called upon.

I've turned it into a positive though, given that I'm watching probably 90% of all the innings the team plays this season, I know I can turn the game off and do something more productive as soon as he takes the mound and catch up on things I'm neglecting. A quick glance at the box score in an hour or two will tell me precisely how he let the runs in.

He's pretty amazing.

WTF ... this is ridiculous. This piece of sewage is a far beyond bad or laughable.

Circumstantially he didn't account for the L this evening but it wasn't because he didn't suck - again.

Richard, C CHC 0 1 7.50 21 0 1 1 12.3 21 14 10 0 6 6 .377 2.17

Bring up another Righty - now
