so if the wizards really are offering joakim $120M, how good do we feel about lopez right now?

About the same, but I feel a lot worse about the Wizards

The problem I have with our setup is that while we have what looks to be a decent amount of cap space, 2/3 of the NBA has more. I keep trying to figure out what the true plan is, after what happened last night.....

Since you have to hit the salary floor, my honest guess is this is STILL a "tank" year.

PG Calderon, Grant

SG Butler, Valentine

SF McDermott, Dunleavy, Snell

PF Mirotic, Gibson, Portis

C Lopez, Felicio

My guess is we'll sign a few one year contract types to get up to the minimum. So we'll have plenty to spend next off season, without as much competition to spend. Don't get me wrong, they'll TRY to sign long term guys this year.....But don't kid yourself, that roster is pretty horsefeathering weak. Its NOT a playoff team currently and its not like we've got the ability to outspend teams. In fact, its kind of the opposite.

My hope is they trade Taj, instead of losing him for nothing. Give Grant, Valentine, McDermott, Mirotic, Portis, and Felicio plenty of time to see which of that group can figure into future plans.

Hopefully wind up with a top 5-8 pick in a much stronger draft, Sacramento's pick(hopefully), and the ability to spend on good players in FA, with more than just Jimmy looking like a longterm fit.

don't really see the reason to roll out calderon's corpse there as the starting PG. just throw grant (a 4 year college starter) into the cauldron and see what you've got. if it ends up costing us Ws all the better.

Did anyone see DRose's press conference? I am sorry but that man is the worst interviewee ever. I don't think he has any idea what he's about to say as he's saying it. First of all, he dropped an f-bomb and said sh-t in a PC that was carried live on TV. But then there are the answers to his questions...2 examples:

Reporter: Derrick, do you know why you were traded?

Derrick: Ummm....no I don't really know why I was traded. But I guess I would have to say thank you. (end of answer)

30 reporters rushing to say: Derrick can you elaborate

Derrick (thinking): horsefeathers, I have no idea why I said that

Derrick: Umm yeah umm just thank you for giving me a new start you know?

Then earlier in his press conference he says something about changing to number 25 so he can bring something from Chicago with him to NY. OK fine, but I'm guessing most Knicks fans, if not the media itself, has no idea that 25 was his number at Simeon and also the number Ben Wilson wore. So later a reporter asks him to elaborate on why the number 25 and his answer was like 'yeah umm just like want to bring something from Chicago with me, umm that's why I did that'

Random rant I know, I'm in a ranty mood today

Oh man, the NY media will be much rougher than Chicago on him too. I don't think its truly known outside of Bull fans exactly how moronic he is.

If there was a tank movement it ended when they were unable or unwilling to move Butler. As it stands now you could probably even make an addition by subtraction argument

(Not my favorite stat, but...)

- Pau Gasol, 21.7 PER in 2291 MP

- Derrick Rose 13.5 in 2097 MP

- Joakim Noah 14.1 PER in 635 MP

And nearly 3000 MP to under 10 PER guys Hinrich, MDJ, Barstow, and Snell (assuming on Snell and MDJ).

So Gasol actually had our best PER, and a good PER, but people who watched a lot more Bulls than I have said he wasn't a good fit despite the stats. Rose was not a fit, nor productive. Lopez can do 3/4 of what Noah did in hopefully more minutes. Not bringing back or just riding the pine with other dead weight and replacing with league average production is additional improvement. Calderon can at least hit an outside shot if he plays.

Basically though this is at lrast one shot at seeing if there is any untapped potential left in Butler (he now has complete command of the offense) and if Mirotic can tap into his promise and be that third option. Focus on good fits in FA. If you strike out in FA, well, I dont know, but at least probably keep whatever value Butler has intact by letting him inflate his stats.

There's probably not that much difference between spots 5-11, and even a first round playoff run brings in valuable revenue, valuable experience, and maybe some additional trade value. If a guy like Valentine is a "hit", he will have value if a top trade target is available. All the first round picks and possible first round picks (Sac) will hold value. Butler will have value.

if that washington report re: noah is true, it's kinda funny since that's the team whose front court completely dominated him that year he won DPOY

I think he will be fine. They are so starved for anything that could be positive for that franchise that people are very ready to get behind him.

I simply don't understand why the Chicago radio guys and a subset of idiot fans give a horsefeathers how he interviews. I also think it's stupid to brand Rose a moron. He's obviously somewhat shy and also doesn't give a horsefeathers what media and fans think of him.

I don't think I'm a bulls fan anymore. I can't hang with this group of executives running the team. There is no way they are able to right this ship.

Back to the discussion about the 2010-2011 team being a real contender. They Definately were. They played the best team to a tough series and would have matche'd up nicely against the Mavs. That said we ended up with Boozer in that offseason and then GarPax refused to upgrade the two gaurd position when somebody like Courtney Lee would have been an enourmous upgrade to the 25 minutes that Bogans was playing. They refused to take a chance to put that team over the edge.

Seeing rose go is just sad. So much potential wasted by this team. I know roses injuries killed us but I still put it on GarPax for not maximizing a core that had a player like Rose paired with what was a fantastic front court defensive monster with Taj and Noah and coach like Thibs who got everything out of those teams and developed middling prospects into great players like Taj and in the case of Noah Butler stars.

Nah; it's mostly him being a dumb weirdo.

I mean, he's really [expletive] stupid by objective measures

What objective measurement of Rose's intelligence do you have available to you? Assuming you know what objective means? Dwayne wade had a 16 on his ACT do you consider him a moron?

I guess if you throw out every word he's every said in public, you could make a case for him not being stupid

I like this guy dropping Dwayne Wade like everyone is gonna be like, "oh no, he brought up DWAYNE WADE. We can't call HIM an idiot."

So, sure, let's say Dwayne Wade is a moron. He can at least act like someone who isn't uncomfortable wearing a human suit.

Damn, I didn't think you had the Dwayne Wade card up your sleeve or calling me out for knowing what objective means. I guess you got me

When I was 12 I got a pair of those flip-up sunglasses and I was convinced that was the peak of, well, everything. My life, fashion, convenience...turned out to just be the former.
