Matt Carpenter is having a more valuable season than Javier Baez, but that'd just make it even funnier to listen to the bitching if Baez wins MVP.

Their WAR difference is .4 - that is pretty meaningless.

while i wouldn't say half a win is meaningless, it's actually a difference of .8

I'm seeing 5.1 vs 4.7. Regardless, WAR has standard margin of error - any derived statistical indicator has one. Lowest suggestion I've seen is 15% and I believe the highest I've seen suggested is 2 WAR per year. So .4 is absolutely meaningless; even at the lower 15% the .8 would be borderline.

Now there may be other schools of thought on what the margin of error may be, but even it it were lower - 15% is pretty low to begin with - there is still a margin of error; so small fractional differences aren't meaningful.

On the one hand, that gangly goober almost certainly makes really horsefeathering boring salsa. On the other hand, salsa horsefeathering rules, so I can't really fault a team for salsa-related shenanigans, or extended innings-long discussions about salsa.

Wait until someone tells the inbreds that Mexicans eat salsa and that it is a Mexican food. At least last year they all would dine on the rally squirrel with no regrets.

It's okay though. Yadi is a Mexican, and Taco Bell is yummy.

fWAR considers them near equals in terms of defensive value, which would seem laughable to a neutral observer; as i think i've said before pretty sure Baez also isn't getting credit for tags & relay throws

yeah, sullivan was on the score recently and basically admitted that fg is undervaluing javy's defensive contributions by a decent amount, in part bc he's making a difference in really weird places

Last video is really good.

"Dubbed the swiss army knife..."

Who calls him that?

I wanna say maybe Maddon has said that about Baez at some point? Not sure.

I mean you can play him at every position in the infield and he'll be above-average, but I wouldn't call him a "Swiss Army Knife". A young Ben Zobrist is more fitting for that term.

It is insane to think about what this team's record would be if they had a real full strength Bryzzo and Darvish, given the fact that we have a 5+ win Baez this year and a Heyward that isn't a complete dumpster fire.

That's without even getting into the underperformance of the other starters.

BFIB are just jealous. They know Baez is far superior.

that guy's handle is "ReviveWhiteyballPermanently" and it struck me as completely tantamount to Packers fans yelling, "Kuuuuuuuuuuuuhn"

I will never get over how hilarious that play is. Dude looks like he's inventing a new dance move out there.

I remember watching that over and over for at least 20 minutes - a thing of absolute beauty.

Wong does have the face plant though.

The Stanky leg dub over is what really made that played amazing for me.
