It’s not bad but I could see rizzo looking at the deal goldschmidt got at 32 (5/130) and wanting that kind of security.

I want to keep him but think he could indeed be pretty washed up in those age 35/36/37 years though.

Outside of general inflation, Rizzo doesn't really deserve that kind of contract, because he's just not at Goldschmidt's level. I get that he might not want to hit FA at 34 (vs 32), so maybe you make it 6/110 or something like that. But Goldy was coming off a 5.1 fWAR year (after 5.2, 4.9, 7.2 the three years before that). Rizzo hasn't been above 5 since 2015, and we're potentially looking at two straight years under 4.

You’re right, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he has his eyes set on that benchmark anyway. I’m sure he’s thinking this next contract will be his last shot at a huge payday. Maybe they meet in the middle but I think he’s gonna want to get paid regardless.

I just don't see Rizzo as that kind of guy. He's got a different perspective than most because of the cancer scare and he's probably generationally wealthy already based on what he's made. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if he took a discounted deal to stay in Chicago. I'd expect either that or a total cut of ties when this deal is up.

Riz needs to get his power back. Just 2 HR in his last 47 games/46 starts, and he's lucky to have those with one having a .320 xBA and the other .080.

I mean we all assume he’s done for the year most likely. Hopefully it’s just Jesse being an idiot. As long as he avoids surgery I’m taking it as good news.

even if he needs surgery, he should still be ready for ST.

Uh, well Jesse oversold the hell out of that.

Yeah, depending on exactly how long he’s out, it seems like Jesse heard “likely season ending” and implied it was some terrible injury when season ending is 2 weeks.

Of course, it is our medical staff so who the hell knows.

The Cubs say they aren't ruling him out for the season...too soon to know.

I rolled my ankle stumbling out of a bar in Hoboken 3 months ago, and I'm still not right. Rizzo will never play again.

The Squat Cobbler isn’t an easy move to pull off without harm.

How long til the medical staff realizes they put the boot on the wrong foot? Gotta factor that into recovery time.

I don't get the guys spinning this like it is bad news. It really sucks to lose Rizzo, but after seeing the injury occur yesterday, this seems to be about the best possible news so far. Even a chance of Rizzo being back for the start of the playoffs is more than I would have allowed for yesterday.
