Speaking of Theo, is there some particular reason he hasn't signed an extension yet?

Both him and Ricketts have said over the course of this year that they aren't worried about it and will get it when they get to it as it's matter of factly going to get done. I wouldn't be all that surprised if he gets a small % of ownership in the team as part of his new deal.

I have a hunch that if the Cubs play in and win a World Series he may make more money than if they don't but its just a hunch.

Yeah, no reason for him to jump on it yet. If they win it all, it's insane how much of a better deal he'll get.

does anyone remmeber an editorial piece in one of the papers when theo got hired talking about how the cubs were selling out or something by hiring theo and that if they started winning it was going to ruin the cubs mystique or some stupidity like that? think he harped on how theo was coming in from boston and was like a hired gun with no cubs ties or some stupid crap like that too.

No but I'm sure I read a thousand blogs like that from guys making peanuts writing for techie stoners.

the extension has been agreed to but is being held back in case of a playoff flop to reassure fans in the offseason. Need the PR timing if that happens.

just realized i'm going to be on vacation in new zealand during the first 4 games of the world series, and hiking the routeburn track (definitely no phone/internet coverage) for games 3 and 4. :x

As the Cubs will win in 4, that's too bad. 8-)

Whoa, Truffle lives in Australia?

It must suck to watch all the Cubs games upside-down

I'd be really confused watching them run towards 3B after a hit

holy horsefeathers!

this guy is a mod at WSI. what horsefeathering alternate universe is he living in? holy horsefeathers the delusion/misinformation here.

Hawk was making a point that Frazier's glove is much better than Bryant's, which it is. Of course, all the old-man bashing on social media and local radio looks cool, so people need to join the party here. Unfortunately I don't see any GIFs of Bryant looking like an absolute clown in LF earlier this year on a play, turning around the wrong way on a flyball and then falling on his face while missing the catch by 15 feet. Bryant was mediocre enough at 3B that Maddon stuck him in left, the easiest position to play on a major league field, and Bryant was such a disaster out there that Maddon was forced to put him back at 3B. That tells you everything you need to know about this silly discussion.

I hope he has been thoroughly mocked and shamed for that

to be fair, most in that thread were ridiculing hawk for the comment, though

I love checking playoff odds stuff because even though its meaningless, it's fun. BP now has us at an absolutely absurd 24.2% chance to win the World Series, which I almost thought wasn't possible (Of course their 2nd and 3rd order expected wins has us 7-9 games better than we are now, which would mean a 97-38 record, i.e. knocking on the door of the 2001 Mariners) http://www.baseballprospectus.com/odds/

Fangraphs has us constantly approaching and then backing off the apparent asymptote of 20% odds at winning the WS, now sitting at 19.7%. Which is impressive for their measures.

FiveThirtyEight has us at 25% to win.

These are all absurd measures for a playoffs that begins with 10 teams. Anyway, I'm gonna continue to be obsessive and neurotic about it.

i mentioned this earlier, but if you look at the FG playoff odds using "season to date stats" mode, the cubs are all the way up to 27.2%

That's incredible. It's nice they also have the "coin flip" mode so it gives you some context. (Under coin flip mode the Cubs are only at 12.9%)

And keep in mind that a lot of those peripherals were accumulated with the team in coast mode, spreading the innings around and being generous with off days.

Those percentages make me sad. It again makes me realize that the chances of winning it all even in a year where over 162 we are the best are still not great. Even the best odds still have it as a 70 percent chance of not winning it.

I want to win it all really bad. I just do.

They're the favorites to win the LDS. If they do that, they're the favorites to win the LCS. If they do that, they're the favorites to win the WS.

Therefore their WS win odds can be no lower than 51%. QED.

True. But its also like putting Shaq on the line, hoping he's hitting 3 straight.
