In other news, I talked about making a career change and moving from Indiana later this year in the Politics thread. I'm actually going to apply for the PGA (actually called PGM Associate Program) to become a golf teacher/instructor/pro at a local course. Pretty excited about this change although I got a few things to do before I even get into the program.

Getting ready to do my background check/screening sometime this month and once I pass that (my brother said I should pass easily as I guess he did a background check on me when I told him I was thinking about applying for this job this past summer and have to do a background check first), I have to buy a package of 5 qualifying level courses so I can register for a qualifying test which I have to do within 6 months IIRC. I will keep you guys updated along the way.

Figured I would give an update on this since it's been 5 months. I passed my written test 2 months ago and then my playing qualifying test 3 weeks ago. The target score that I had to beat that day was 159 (36 holes) on a course I've never played on (The Player's Club at Wooland Trails- which is where Ball State plays at). Ended up shooting 150 (77-73).

Now all I have to do is start looking for jobs, apply, etc. Haven't decided where I want to move to yet.

How is everyone's game coming along?

Awesome! congratulations! How exciting to choose where to move! My one piece of advice is remember that you can always move back or move again so I wouldn't fret the location too much! If you come to northern California, let me know as my game definitely needs some help!

I got FOUR pars the last time I played 18. FOUR!

(I also hit a drive 370 yards, but that's because it was WAY downhill at 10,000 ft elevation)

to be fair, you have to get it in the air for the elevation to help so you did that! I once hit a drive like that at that course near the AFA.

Last time I played 9 I had four pars, four triples, and a three putt bogey. Probably the best I’ve ever hit my irons, but the driver was a disaster. Lefty swing, and it was either on the next fairway to the left or OB. So that’s the project of the month. If the weather holds up, playing Dunes Club tomorrow, which I had never even heard of but sounds incredible.

Was it Eisenhower? I prob know the hole you're talking about.

I think it must have been but I don't really remember. I looked at the map and I don't think it was the club on the other side of 25. Pretty sure the hole was downhill to the south

Weird. Sounds like a mob hit from a movie.

Lots and lots of gambling go on at these places. John Daly has probably made more money playing skins on private courses than he made on the PGA Tour. I'm obviously speculating.

We went to Topgolf in Myrtle Beach and our bay had even number irons. A few weeks later we went to the one in Richmond and it had odd number irons. Does each facility have either odd or even or do they alternate?

Does anyone know if they’re using stronger lofted irons? It felt that way but I was also hitting off the third deck.

The odd and even number irons are both there. Odds are on one side while even is on the other. You can kinda see what I'm talking about on the picture below. You were just on different side of the hitting bays when you went.

Played a scramble tourney yesterday. I shot pretty well, but had to play in this:

At least I didn't have to worry about getting sun burned.

gross. our air cleared in time to play my first round since the 4th of July. I was great! Maybe I play too often.

So I played for the first time in 2+ years a couple weeks ago, then again yesterday. I guess it's a new thing now that people don't take the flag out of the hole on the green.

They changed the rules a couple years ago (before covid) so that it was optional. It was mostly to help with pace of play, so that someone don't have to walk over and remove the flag prior to putting. Last year most courses made it so that you weren't supposed to remove the flag and that made it more likely that people just don't remove it anymore.

I know they changed the rules on the PGA Tour a few years back to allow people to leave it in if they wanted and Bryson, etc decided to go that route. On the amateur level, last year there were signs saying to leave it in all summer because people thought Covid was a surface level thing, but seems like everyone just stuck with it this year. As someone who caddied for 8 years growing up, still feels weird to me leaving it in, but ultimately I know it doesn't really matter.

I went to a super-cheap version of a Top Golf in town a month ago and worked on straightening out my drive. It was an unmitigated and, thus far, sustained success. I just did 9 holes and was on the fairway at least 260 yards on every drive. I still only shot a 44, but it was 8 2-putt bogeys and a 2-putt par. So pumped to be noticably improving.

I hit a drive 375 yards on a 370 yard hole. I had maybe a 15 mile per hour wind behind me and I hit it perfect and got great loft. The ball hit the cart path where it crosses the fairway and it took a huge bounce forward and landed on the green and then rolled to about 15 feet past the hole. Of course I missed the eagle putt, but I did get the birdie. My only other claim of remarkable distance was a 3 iron that I just absolutely nutted and when it was done rolling, it went 275 yards. 220 is a great 3 iron for me. It wasn't downhill and I might have had a slight breeze that day, but I don't recall it and it's something you normally note when you hit a really long shot like that. It was in Vegas and there is elevation there, so there is that.

I did also have this really bad shank with a 7 iron that was headed straight for a tree to the right of the green. We lost track of it when it got to the tree. As we rode up in the cart, I saw a ball in the next fairway over, which was a possible landing spot with a bad carom off the tree. I walked all the way down to that ball and it wasn't mine. Looked all over for it. Turns out it was on the green the whole time, 6 feet from the cup. I made the putt and we were playing skins that day and it was a 3rd hole carryover. Those guys were mad as hell.

My baby momma is in town, so I get my 2 days off for the half-year. I'm going to try to hit a full-size course for the first time tomorrow despite having picked up the clubs twice in the last six months. We'll see how it goes.

Shot my best round ever after a month off so sometimes it helps!
