He's quoting (or paraphrasing) Papa John. I think it's to discuss how ignorant I am being for asking if Fukudome faced additional difficulties beyond the stupid headbands and shirts (and man, would there have been a far different media climate surrounding that today, whereas 10 years ago it was mostly shrugged off, beyond Kosuke apparently publicly condemning the 'horry kow' shirt, which was hideous even at the time).

 

FTR, it was an earnest question, I didn't know if I missed something else.

I'm not sure it really matters past getting rid of the poisonous atmosphere that Matheny seemingly fostered. That said, if there was a chance they'd hire someone actively bad like Dusty or something, I would've liked that.

My point is that they are now playing to their potential overall for the season. Matheny was a dolt, but teams have good runs at some point in the year. The recent month doesn't mean the Cardinals issues are fixed.

 

The Reds and Pirates have had nice runs this year. The Mets started the season on fire. Making an organization decision over one month of baseball seems to be a bad decision, in my opinion.

i just don't think managers matter that much unless they are complete assholes pissing off the whole team or complete morons doing almost everything as wrong as possible
