Now begins the Cardinal fan speculation that they'll be landing Quintana for Kelly,Bader and Adams and whatever else is blocked or invaluable to them.

Not just fans...But it's purely speculation. The White Sox smartest move would be to wait until the deadline and line up as many suitors possible and chose between 4 or 5 different team's packages of prospects.

All the other teams expressing an interest in Quintana have also intimated that the price is off the charts. The only starting point the Cardinals have is Reyes, and even he might not be a good enough lead piece with the TJS.

I present this for your enjoyment.

I'm not sure what I love most...the part where this is actually a question being asked only semi-facetiously, that, despite it seeming absurd (the idea that two decent MLB teams couldn't combine for a better roster than ours) it's being seriously discussed, or the part where TT came in and was like NOPE.

It's going to be great when Willson guns down 3-4 Cardinals in the opening series.

The Javy tags will be glorious.

He's gonna hit 6 dongs this series.

The Cardinals are going to be paying a catcher over $18 million for his age 37 season.

They are going to be paying Fowler and Molina $35 million.

Come the historic FA class of 2018/2019 I suspect they're going to regret this massively.

They're the most profitable team in MLB. They can spend with the big clubs if needed, they just don't.

So....why did they do this deal?

He wasn't a FA till 2022 anyway. They aren't getting any extra years of control.

They bought out a year of Free Agency with an option for a 2nd.

Ok, I knew the option was one...bad math on my part though on the other year.

They might also believe that he could overperform the next few years and would end up paying more for his later arb years if they went year to year.

He's already 26, why not just ride it out? It's not like they locked him for more prime years than they already had. It seems like even if he would hit his top end projections they are saving maybe a few million if they would've have just gone to arbitration with him
