Yeah, I'm fairly stunned by the number of articles I've read that imply Victorino is a lock for this roster. ...I'd prefer he NOT be on the roster.

in favor of whom?

The best of Edwards, Ramirez, Brothers/Richard (one of them will be the 2nd LHP), Acevedo, Riefenhouser, etc.

Yeah, the only mystery with this roster is 4 or 5 man bench and then who makes the pen and who doesn't.

Yeah, Victorino makes sense as the 5th OF. No idea why some people are supposed to that. Why the hell do people want fat-legged Murton in a role mostly used for defense anyway?

That he even implies that one of the reasons would be Shane Victorino is a special kind of stupid.

 

also, a talented RH guy on a joe maddon team will find himself in a platoon situation "at best"

 

i really don't question that soler will get a good share of plate appearances if he's performing well

i would have liked murton to make the team as a 5th OF for novelty reasons but i was never all that married to it and now that he's got the appendix thing, might as well give victorino a crack

The fifth outfielder is Baez. With the first four you have why have a real fifth unless it's a glennalen hill type, or pinch runner?

 

Victorino congratulated Kolten Wong and called him "lil bro" in a recent tweet. This must not be.

 

I could see starting Soler in Tennessee if the first week of the season was in Chicago (or another cold weather town) it gets everyone at bats and "gets them going" early. But with the season starting in the southwest (Las Vegas, Anaheim, and Arizona) and three of those games including a DH, there's no reason to start him in the minors. I still hold he should not play at below 50 degrees.

7 of 45 at under 50 degrees over 12 games. He will sit more than 12 games this year. There is no reason those can't be 12 of them. He wears a freaking ski mask.
