Seems fitting for the game to end early because the Mexican fans are going their homophobic chant again.

If FIFA/CONCACAF had balls (they don't) they'd boot Mexico from the Gold Cup.

I still think they should appeal the Wes red, I didn't see anything on camera that Wes did in particular any differently than anyone else.

 

Sergino has to be smarter about being goaded into a red, though.

 

The referee completely lost control of the match after the 3rd goal and should never work one of these games again. Punish Mexico for gooning it up right away, hell, give them 2 reds at the beginning of that shitshow, and it doesn't devolve the way it did.

I'd even go back to him not having the courage to send off Antuna for basically committing a targeting penalty on Reyna(would have been his second yellow), and it took like 2 minutes for Mexico to take that as an invitation to just take pot shots.

I feel stupid that I just now realized that Pulisic and McKinnie played rock-paper-scissors after Pulisic's 2nd goal, McKinnie put out scissors, Pulisic rock, and then they both held up their hands to signal a 2 and a 0.  Love it

That ref is so completely lost. At times, it looked like he took out the yellow card and started waving it around randomly. McKennie was sent off for grabbing at someone's throat per the broadcast after a VAR review of the incident. It's a tough call to me when a team defends itself against goonish behavior - you can't just let it go and given that it was Balogun, I think there had to be a response. Once you're in that scrum, and McKennie is surrounded by opponents in front of their bench, bad things come about. But what is he supposed to do?

 

Not thrilled about Berhalter but we'll see what happens. It feels like the shackles came off offensively and I hate to see them go back on.
