50 minutes into the Poch era, the US has a goal and a lead vs Panama. It at least feels like they're being much more aggressive and forcing action thus far.

Almost immediately followed by a bad giveaway in the defensive end when screwing around too much in the back. Keep pushing, don't just settle back.

Sporting, Monaco and Brest are 2-3-4 in the UCL, just like we all predicted.

Meanwhile, Man City, Arsenal, Bayern and Real aren’t in the top-8.

Considering Milan is 2-2 against their thus far murderous schedule bodes well for them finishing top 8 at this point ( they have thus far played Liverpool, Leverkusen and Real Madrid)

I will say, I do like how the new format makes the schedules a bit more even. I mean, it’s never going to be anywhere close to fair, but before, teams in Pot 1 and 2 had an advantage getting to play 4 of 6 games against generally weaker sides. So when a team like Newcastle gets stuck in Pot 4, it’s going to be rough. But now each team from all four pots gets 2 games against every pot. So there are still going to be unbalanced schedules, but the gap has narrowed.

Here's a fun one and from a couple angles.

If you're the ref, what do you do here? Salah is denied an obvious goal scoring opportunity, which is a red card. However, the ball rolls to Nunez, who scores. What if he shanks the shot? Can you then go back and give a red card because they didn't score or do you just have to let it be?

If you're Liverpool, what's the ideal outcome? Would you rather take a 1-0 lead at home with 70 minutes to play or be 0-0 while playing up a man for 70 minutes?

I think the ref did the right thing by letting it play out, but that's a really tricky situation if Nunez doesn't score there.

pretty sure you can give the card after playing advantage. you certainly see cautions that way all the time

"However, had Núñez shot wide or seen his effort saved, that would have brought the VAR into play. When a goal hasn't been scored, the DOGSO offence belongs to the player (Salah) rather than the team (a chance for another player.) The VAR would have been able to recommend a review for a red card against Bailey; Salah was ahead of the Aston Villa player with the ball in front of him, running towards goal and with no prospect of Lucas Digne being able to get back on the cover."

Watching the game in real time I had a similar thought, I think you take the goal in hand if you're Liverpool, but if Nunez missed that wouldn't have been an unjust red.  I was watching the Sky sports feed though, and shortly after they replayed the ref's reaction to the Salah collision that seemed to imply he wasn't going to call it a foul at all.  That might've been a tougher overturn on VAR, especially in the EPL where everything refereeing-related is done on vibes, so happy that Nunez got the finish.

Well that was an interesting match.  Still have not seen anything particularly impressive from the US under Poch but a CONCACAF away win in a competitive match will always be welcomed.  You kinda of see stretches where the US player how I imagined a Poch coached USMNT would look but for long enough periods.

After failing to register a single win in over 20 years, San Marino have now won twice in 2 months. Sensational stuff.

Both against Liechtenstein, effectively thanks to the Nations League.
