one of the worst takes of all time on nsbb

I wasn’t making light of the crowd troubles that delayed the match. Like the Euro 2020 final at Wembley, it sucked but it was understandable to keep people safe.

could be off base... but I think it was the Shakira part that was the bad take

edit: I'm an idiot and missed that you called people thugs... the problems getting in were due to the match organizers...

No it was the thug part

Okay, I’m sorry. That wasn’t the right thing to say. It was annoying seeing the game delayed like that, being it was the second major international tournament final with a delay like that in 3 years. But I directed my annoyance at the wrong people. I’ll do better with my wording in the future.

Not to tangent this thread- the word Thug comes from a band of people in India called the Thuggies. The British East India company and the military stationed there invented them as a means for getting more money and supplies to subjugate the people of India. That is to say, there really were people called Thuggies -but they weren’t terrorizing the local population nor the British. It was all just more racist propaganda. The term is inherently racist. No blame to you Jh.

Thank you for that.

The word “thug” as I know it, being from Australia, is basically a slang word to mean a violent/aggressive person. I definitely didn’t mean it in a racist way, but your post has opened my eyes to the fact that the word means different things in different places. I’ll take better care of what I am posting in the future.

I agree that the conmebol officials who pocketed the extra money they should have spent on security are thugs.

Columbia-Argentina in Miami was such an obvious red flag that friends and I who are inter Miami ticket holders were texting about how insane the atmosphere was going to be as soon as the final was set. Total unforced error by conmebol. I went to a Miami-FSU game last year that was absolutely packed with security everywhere. Not a hard rock stadium issue.

I honestly don't know how I feel about Southgate. I do think experience matters in a national team coach as for many of the reasons TT pointed out, it's very challenging. you have to adapt your system to your players as you can't recruit players for your system.

I think the US would be easier for Southgate to manage because it seemed like a large part of his issue with England was team selection and there just aren't as many good options on the USMNT roster. And for as ugly as it was, you can't argue that he got results.

Twellman says he's good at yelling at people.

Viera has cachet with players thanks to his playing career, speaks excellent English, has familiarity and success coaching US players, and otherwise for club has not been actively bad(which is the maximum you can hope for).  Hard to do much better than him, IMO.

I just don’t think you’re going to convince a major club manager like Poch to manage a national team that isn’t one of the big brands, so Viera is realistically as pedigreed an option as we’ll get. I think there is reason to be optimistic that he’ll create a greater sense of competition within the squad that will hopefully result in stuff like Tyler Adams not going into business for himself when we’re down a man, Tim not slapping Panamanians, and Wes not tracking players into our box after playing 180 minutes the prior week.

Mallory Swanson with 2 goals today in the USWNT's opening match win over Zambia.  At least one of the Swanson's is still producing at a high level.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Men’s team looking strong today, up 2-0 early against New Zealand. Walker Zimmerman even get into the scoring column with a goal off a set piece.

I was impressed with their performance against France actually. They were not dominated and hit the woodwork 2 or 3 times.

US Olympic soccer advances to the quarterfinals to play Morocco, while group winner France plays Argentina. Egypt beat Spain earlier today to win that group, so the US ends up on Spain's half of the bracket. Final 8 look to be 2 UEFA (France, Spain), 2 CONMEBOL (Argentina, Paraguay), 2 CAF (Egypt, Morocco), one AFC (Japan) and one CONCACAF (USA)

the lack of rest between games has turned this tourney to horsefeathers. they are all obviously exhausted.

also, what happened to the beautiful game? The Brazilians are the worst men and women with theatrics, gamemanship and whining to the ref. I hope Spain thrashes them
