To me, the reaction of the players is very telling. The vote to send him home was apparently very close. This cannot be a first time offense for the players to respond to his behavior so negatively.

I also understand Gio’s perspective. There’s a difference between being told you’re not going to start and finding out that not only are you not a starter, but you’re behind Jordan Morris as an attacking sub because that makes zero strategic sense.

Agreed on both of these points. Like you said, the fact that there was a vote and it was as close as it was says a lot. If it came out there was a vote and it was almost unanimous to keep Gio or if there was no vote at all, then I'd lean towards Berhalter overreacting or holding some grudge against Gio.

I totally understand why Gio would be frustrated and I know he's only just turned 20. But he's also a professional who has been playing at one of the biggest clubs in the world for two years now. He's got to react better than this. Be frustrated. Be angry. But when you step on the practice field, you've got to bring it even if you don't agree with the coach's decision.

Hopefully he learns from this and it doesn't happen again in the future. And hopefully we find a coach next cycle who figures out how to get his best players on the field.

the upshot here

Grant died from the rupture of a slowly growing, undetected ascending aortic aneurysm with hemopericardium. The chest pressure he experienced shortly before his death may have represented the initial symptoms. No amount of CPR or shocks would have saved him. His death was unrelated to COVID. His death was unrelated to vaccination status. There was nothing nefarious about his death.

Same thing killed one of my great uncles and my grandma had the same issue but it was corrected and she lived until she was 93. A shame it went undetected for him.

Twellman says the players' vote on Gio's status never happened. This whole story is so bizarre.

If that’s true, GGG is actively sabotaging his job prospects even more than I initially thought. Egos running loose on both sides of the story, but Gio comes out looking more professional somehow.

Soccer refs need to stop tolerating players getting in their face. Captain only or you get carded. It's that simple. I can't think of any other sport that allows so much ref abuse.

I’d allow the person who committed the foul too but otherwise I completely agree.

They also need to make a rule where if it’s not your ball on any sort of dead ball, you can’t touch the ball or throw it away. So any sort of impeding the other team. Can’t stand that stuff and it would be so easy to get rid of.

Put that counter attack in the thing we broadcast into space to attract intelligent life. The aliens need to know.
