horsefeathers yeah. Things I wouldn't mind never seeing on the USMNT again:

John Brooks

Josh Sargent (unless he gets much better)

James Sands

Matt Turner with the ball at his feet (ok, love his shot-stopping but he is scary with the ball at his feet)

Kellyn Acosta taking 7 touches

Tyler Adams anywhere but in the midfield

Pulisic on the turf injured

And 4th goal slides them into 3rd . . .

Boy that was a much needed second half turnaround. I probably would have expected 6 or 7 points from the first three going in (win at home, win one road game, draw/lose the other), but 5 isn't the end of the world, especially after tying the first two.

Next three in October are home Jamaica, road Panama, home Costa Rica. Get 6 points please.

I’ve consumed all the post game interviews. Still no accountability from Gregg regarding how he drilled a high press for two years and then inexplicably over-complicated the attack when qualifying started. He even said in his presser that when pepi first came on he was pressing aggressively and that wasn’t the tactics at the time. Then he acknowledged making the subs to implement a high press and then we started winning over 60% of our duels.

Bud. You just acknowledged that the press broke them but then not only showed no regret for trying to build out of the back with the starters but even pointed out his game changing performer defying the tactical plan. If he doesn’t learn from this and continues to make these bipolar tactical choices, I don’t care what the results are. I’m incredibly tired of MNT managers trying to create a unique standing identity/system/culture. I’m starving for a coach that just wants to put the best 11 on the field in a system that plays to their immediate strengths. Just win, dude. That will create your identity and culture.

Rewatching the game, I can't believe just how badly the team's shape was for the first 60 minutes or so. Then they brought on Yedlin for Sands and put Adams in the middle, and they absolutely dominated from there.

boy, gotta think 7 is the minimum there - win both home games and get a point on the road. Can't be dropping points at home to the two bottom teams and need to at least hold Panama.

I was bored this morning and looked up past WCQ cycles, and I believe this is the first time that the USMNT has scored 4 goals in a half on the road in a WCQ match. The closest they've come was scoring 4 goals in a half against Cuba in Mexico city back in 1949.

How good is Costa Rica? All I know is they’re typically right up there with us and Mexico. Hope they win the first two and then whatever happens in Costa Rica is gravy. You could definitely convince me 7 should be the minimum though if Costa Rica is nothing special.

someone else can give you a better answer but I was under the impression that they were definitely a step down from where they've been in recent years
