Who benefits from 25 different seating options?

PTR from being able to price tier more appropriately obv

How many different prime/premium game price structures are layered over the 25 seating sections? Is this the PTR version of 4D chess?

Switching the portion of the former 400 level to new 300 level probably lets them do a decent upcharge on that “new” section and probably also allows them to sell branding/naming rights on it.

Shea stadium had the dumbest "box" seats, the ones behind home plate and the dugouts. Each box was numbered and consisted of 4 seats, 2 behind each other. So if you had 4 seats together, you had 2 and 2, and a bar running down the middle of the person not on the aisle.

It should be called Rickettsville soon, or are we already there?

Wrigley is an old, dead rich white guy. So is Sheffield. Seems inevitable that there will be a Ricketts street or square or whatever. (Clark was a Revolutionary War general, Addison was a doctor, and Waveland was named that way because it used to flood a lot. Thanks, Google!)

Yeah, the Rickettseseseseseses are garbage people politically, so this can only be for nefarious purposes...but Tom Tunney also REALLY sucks. Like, REEEEEEEEEEEALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY sucks.

This is truly a fight where everyone loses.

Especially if you live near Wrigleyville.

I love how Tunney in this article is acting like "Not sure why they want me gone, look at all they've accomplished with me here!"

Like MF'ers don't forget that he stalled several renovations because he refused to let them put up a video board on their own property and had it drag on so long that he pretty much forced the Cubs to put it up without his or any rooftop owners approval because they got tired of playing nice and trying to compromise. And in turn, it forced several rooftop owners into selling because Tunney decided he wanted to lord his power over a family of billionaires and play hardball with them. He's an horsefeathers.

I believe this is also the reason there was once a team named the Chicago Whales that played their home games at Wrigley Field...

Some tidbits I came across that I hadn't heard about (and some that we've heard some stuff about before)...

The renovations of Wrigley Field are in their latter stages, with a better ballpark experience and more amenities on the way. By spring 2020, the Cubs envision all the interior changes in the park being finished.

That timeline matters because it would put the Cubs in line to perhaps host the 2021 All-Star Game, which they plan to apply for soon enough. Wrigley Field hasn't hosted the All-Star Game since 1990.

"We will be back in front of MLB applying this year," president of business operations Crane Kenney said at the Cubs Convention on Saturday. "The game has already committed for the next couple of years. This will be a joint process for us. We want the game, but you have to earn it from the commissioner and MLB. This is such a big economic driver for all the cities. The city has to come and make a pitch as to why we deserve it in Chicago. The last time, our (mayor and city) was not strong enough. We will need to find out who the next mayor is. This will be a huge economic driver for a city that gets it."

What's new at Wrigley Field in 2019?

Fans will notice some changes at Wrigley Field when the regular season opens:

-- New upper-deck wraparound seating in the right-field corner and additional seating

-- New restaurants and bathrooms in the upper deck and a concourse walkway expansion

-- WiFi broadband system that will change the way interactive communication will take place at the park

-- Paperless tickets with an app system assisting season-ticket holders

The implementation of new light stanchions and a rehab of the press box will take place next offseason.

I've seen elsewhere that they will be installing LED lighting.

"We realize there is discomfort with any change," Kenney said about the new app that replaces paper tickets. "Airlines are now mainly mobile. Not everybody loved it initially, but now I haven't seen many paper tickets in years myself. The tickets can easily transfer from phone to phone."

also, what the hell is crane talking about? i still see plenty of people printing/using paper tickets at the airport...and if the line ever slows down, it's usually for my damn mobile ticket that isn't scanning right.

He's obviously using the special rich people lines that the proletariat doesn't have access to.

there's something like 90% of all check-ins being done electronically, and I have seen estimates that expect electronic boarding passes to hit that number within the next couple of years. so yeah, airlines are basically mobile.

What a bunch of malarkey. The freaking all star game isn't going to bring a dime into the city.

i mean i've been checking in online for as long as i can remember...like well over a decade. that's nothing new.

i use mobile tickets now but a lot of times i still print a paper one because it's just easier to deal with once you're there (if i'm checking a bag and have to use the kiosk anyway). and maybe my anecdotal claim is off but i still feel like i'm in the minority when i'm boarding using a mobile ticket (or delaying the line bc of scanning issues).
