At a bar where a game just ended and Speak for Yourself just came on FS1. I refuse to believe there is an audience that watches Cowherd, Whitlock and Doug Gotlieb bicker about nonsense for an hour.

I don't know that Gottlieb is a regular on that show, but I also have never had it on, so I don't know. He's a clown, but he's probably closer to respectable than either of the other 2.

He's actually pretty great at calling out the NCAA on their BS usually. I mean, he has lots of experience in dealing with them after the whole cheating and transfer thing.

hot damn, that's a tough read.

Yeah, it was like reading about a really slow motion carwreck, but man, it's really well written. It bummed me out...but in a good way? If that makes any kind of sense.

I wasn't really sure where to put this, but I just finished watching the Netflix Doc on the Gawker/Hogan affair. It really changed my opinion on the case.

I was glad to see Gawker go. I still am not sorry they are no longer in business, but the larger implications of how this case came about is chilling.

It can be both things.

Glad to see gawker go is kind of weird to me. With all the actually horrible media outlets out there, a successful one that wasn't dependant on rights fees and subscriptions was a universal good. Gawker wasn't a bad thing.

being anything but disgusted that a billionaire venture capitalist financed the absurd prosecution of a media company is bad thinking.

Nah, they were pretty shitty. Like, if this had happened over the supremely fucked up Conde Nast CFO thing, then I'd have almost no pity. But, yes, in either case, it's fucked up that Thiel was just trying to destroy a media outlet he didn't like by pumping money into lawsuits and was ultimately successful, especially given the anti-media climate being fostered on the Right.

Of course, how much of the end result was due to AJ Daulerio being a coked up moron, well, that's up for debate (hint: a LOT).

Chris Christie is sitting in for Mike on the Mike and the Mad Dog show all next week. I expect gooney to listen and report

Mike and the Mad Dog ended a decade ago.

He's filling in for Francesa who is retiring, and it has been rumored he is in line for the job. That explains his BS answer about lounging on the beach last week. Not a care in the world about the state he nominally runs.
