The Orioles have managed to reach special levels of awful after a hot start. They've now lost 18 of their last 20 games.

D-Backs may be even worse. Lost 21 of their last 24 after a 15-13 start.

ETA - Rockies have lost 20 of their last 30, with 6 of those 10 wins coming against the D-Backs.

brenly stroman

Someone help me with Brenly's comments - I'm not sure I'm understanding the issues.

He was basically saying that wearing a durag wasn't something a greater, whiter man would do.

Not gonna lie, I really really don't get how what Brenly said can be taken as racist unless you're just looking for something to be upset about... It just seems like a dumb joke? Maybe I'm just oblivious to how it is being construed in such a way as to piss people off. Is the word du-rag a slur? Edited by philosophizer75

Long story short: Brenly was using “durag” as a derogatory comment since wearing a durag is conceived by unintelligent racist white people as something a poor black person wears.

Jamal from Survivor breaks it down better than I could. Watch the video I posted.

I watched the video and I get it, well I get that I don't get it with regards to the privilege I have. I dunno, it still just seems like conjecture to me to conclude that someone using the word durag is automatically subconsciously putting the black man beneath themselves. Growing up the only thought I can remember with regards to them is that I thought durags looked cool.

We are at a point in time where comments can be interpreted as racist, sexist, Anti-semitic, etc. depending on the circumstance and the listener.

Would there be such backlash if he said Bob Gibson or Luis Tiant instead?

probably. the implication then would be that those players were the kind of minorities that were respectful to the game instead of these uppity minorities (trademark ty cobb) playing the game now.

IMO, it’s hypersensitivity to nonsense like this that distracts from real cases of racism.
