My cousins in London don't care one bit about baseball, but MLB can try to build a market there lol. Maybe try comparing it to cricket? Some still enjoy and follow cricket, but not really the younger generation as far as I can tell.

I'm pretty sure my cousins enjoy the NBA somewhat, but everything comes second to football (soccer) over there. It's bizarre how fixated they are around one sport from an American's perspective.

I think the rise of popularity of soccer in the US is what sports look at when trying to reach out to international markets. It's not going to happen overnight.

He's got a .303 OBP and a .791 OPS after tonight. Coming into tonight, he's been worth -0.3 bWAR and 0.0 fWAR.

At age 22, only 170 PA’s, cost controlled, small sample size...

Yeah, plus .313 .421 1.000 in the last week with only a .182(!!!) BAbip, and .294 .368 .647 with a .333.

So he’s been great over the last week? Cool. He’s been nothing special this year with a .284 BABIP. That doesn’t mean he won’t end up being good or great down the line. I’m just saying pump the breaks a bit.

Well in fairness he said the "real deal" - not the second coming of Christ.

Plus the guy's entire major league career is a limited sample size to this point.

Though, hey, Schwarber looked great his first time up, too. Baseball is baseball.

Did you mean to reply to someone else? All I was saying is he's been really damn good for at least a couple of weeks.

his defense has been as bad as advertised and he's struck out more than 4 times as much as hes walked. he finally hits some fingers nd it's supposed to he awe inspiring or something? Home runs are the one thing we know he will do.

it's just really weird to bring him up now as if his stock has risen since he came up or something.

Again, I think you meant to reply to someone else; I didn't bring him up.

I hope it’s not really weird to bring it up now that Eloy “The Real Deal” just went yard in the 9th to win the game.

He’s never going to be all that valuable, sucks he Dong’d vs us but he’s nothing special in terms of value.

It does suck for tonight. He might be like a Carlos Lee comp, maybe a little better.

Carlos Lee didn’t strike out (11% career rate) and he also stole 10+ bases a year. He only had 3 seasons of 3+ WAR, only 1 over 4 and more seasons under 2 than over 2. It takes a lot to be that valuable as a bat only, bad defense guy (especially one who Ks a decent amount and doesn’t walk).

To repeat what has been said - he'ss 22 years old with less than 200 PA in the majors. Also, he's playing on a team that can allow him time to grow and he's playing in a league that uses the DH. It's way too early to make predictions on what kind of career he will have, but he certainly looks like he can be a productive ML hitter for quite a few years.

How much longer is Abreu signed for? I can't imagine it's for more than a year or two, tops, right? If Eloy keeps hitting, I just figured they'd slide him at DH/1B.

He's a free agent this year

There’s plenty of numbers by him and historical comps to have a pretty good idea what he will be, not certain, but a good estimate. He will more than likely be a productive hitter, I’ve never said he won’t. He just won’t be all that valuable and it’s nonsense how he’s talked about as a future MVP/superstar. He’s probably going to end up being a player with similar value to Schwarbs (they’ll get there differently) as a 2-3 win guy most with maybe a peak year or two over 4 but not much over.

And I have pointed out many times that Schwarber would be much more valuable in the AL. I still think it's way too early to guess/estimate what a 22 year old will turn into when he's had less than 200 PA in the ML.

What do you mean by "much more valuable" in the AL?
