Agghhh if we won that we'd likely make the tournament. As it is I think UM has to win 2 more and a BTT game to feel relatively safe.

So if everything went well, Illinois would have been mediocre?

This would have been totally unacceptable 10 yrs ago. The program has deteriorated to the point that many fans are okay with giving Groce another year because of his bad luck. I am not saying anyone here is calling for g is return. But I hear it a lot in the Champaign area.

Well that sucks that they are. I am not ok with it, but I just am being realistic. The school hasn't made it a priority. As such, this is what we get. We should have offered so much money that Smart or Stevens couldn't have said no. This time we should do the same with Archie Miller, although I am afraid his relationship with Groce might make that a nonstarter.

this might seem far-fetched, but what about Tom Thibodeau? he's a hard worker, a complete dictator, defensive guru. Is he married to the NBA?

He's the type of coach that would fit well at the college level, where he would have complete oversight of the program, no one messing with him to play this guy or that guy, and his grinding of players into the ground actually has a point.

I doubt Thibs would want to take the step back into the college game from the highest level. I also wonder if he has the personality that could recruit, although I would think he could in Chicago. I'd like that kind of outside the box thinking. But, I am betting he has an NBA job sooner than later.

2 wins any way will do it.

I don't know. Wins over Northwester and someone like Penn State in BTT would leave me very nervous. At that point they could be looking at an RPI around 60, SOS in the 70s and a 3-11 record against the RPI top 100. I don't know too many at large teams that get in with 3 top 100 wins.

Of course i tend to be annoying pessimistic at times so maybe I'm wrong

Seth Davis had them out....right after saying Maryland was possibly the best team in the country

love watching wvu mug the horsefeathers out of iowa st for 90 feet with no fouls called...then have iowa st get called for touch fouls.

looking forward to wvu losing in the tourney when refs call them for 53 fouls.

Iowa st commits the 2nd fewest fouls per game in the country. wvu commits the 4th most. iowa st called for more fouls tonight.

Bob Huggins and his coaching tree pioneered Murderball, please show it respect and call it by its proper name

My question is if his coaching tree is an actual oak log that his players use to swing at players going by?

  • I have Michigan at 200:1 to win the title
I think John Beleien is one of the best coaches in NCAA
I don't think there's a great team in NCAA this year

So yes, I agree.

And again, I think one win in your next 3 will do it.

Also bukie, can we do the committee again? I'll be fairly worthless during selection weekend due to Vegas plans, but I'd love to do whatever I can.

I can run the selection committee again, but it would be good if we can get 8-10 different people weighing in. Otherwise it just turns into me being Joe Lunardi and nobody really wants that.

I also haven't watched a single game since December, so it'll be like I'm on the actual committee.

I'll create the thread on Monday like with past years. Gives people 10 days to decide if they want to participate . Worse comes to worse I let my 8yo weigh in with his selections, and his criteria for selecting teams is a bit subjective.
