oh yeah, and porter is the best man corner i can remember in Chicago, he's dominating people and barely even trying.

peanut was great at playing man, he just didn't get to do it that often

I have not been watching this team all season. But I definitely watched last night, and was the only game all season I actually wanted to win really badly. In Lambeau, with freaking Favre in the booth for nearly the whole damn 2nd half....

So satisfying.

I understand very little of the post.

You haven't watched the games? They play once a week. This isn't some grueling marathon.

This is the only game you've really wanted them to win? I don't even know what this means.

This is what turkey does to a man.

I was glad to see Gase neutralize their strong pass rush with the WR screen to Alshon's and Wilson. Their pass rush wasn't the same afterward and their blitzing pattern changed.

Defensively, I've never seen a staff do so much with less.

The WR screen game is what he did in Denver. Peyton Manning has consistently led the league in WR screen yards as a Bronco. The Bears haven't done it as much as I expected, but it's well designed and run a lot of different ways. Run from the bunch formation, two wide formation with the TE screaming out to get a block, WR catching it coming back to the QB with the OL getting out in front. Really protects your QB and gives you some easy yards when the run game isn't going, and like you said, slows down the pass rush.

Defensively, they are covering their asses off. Porter has been great. But teams aren't even going at Kyle Fuller anymore. I think GB threw his way maybe 2 times, and I don't think remember any completions on him. Callahan was the key though last night. I know Porter had the INT (should have been 2) and the PBUs, but the Packers clearly went in there trying to expose Callahan at the nickel, and they couldn't. Got the big play on him on the final drive, but other than that he was very strong following Cobb all over the field. Amos did a good job on the TEs in man coverage, which we have not seen much from him. Fangio also gave no coverage responsibility to McClellin (mostly spied and dropped following the QBs eyes), and I don't remember very many blitzes or zone coverage calls against Rodgers.

After surrendering 106 yards and two touchdowns in the first two games of the season, it looked like it was going to be another tough season for Kyle Fuller (+1.8), but the Bears’ second-year corner has turned things around since, with last night’s game his third-highest grade of the season. Since Week 2, Fuller is among the 10 highest-graded corners in the NFL, having conceded fewer than 200 yards on 43 targets in that spell.

it might seem sacrilege, but porter is playing better in coverage than peanut ever did.

it's obvious that the athleticism has always been there for him to be great.

he was kind of all-in on the bears being bad, despite the fact that i have repeatedly told him that they are not.

I don't think that's sacrilege. For one you're just talking about a 8 game spam vs a decade long career. Also Tillman could be shutdown in coverage against a guy like Megaton and then get exposed by prime Steve Smith. So he was better in zone or against bigger and more physical receivers.

If Gase or Fangio get promoted, at least the blueprint is ther. Kromer was an OLine coach/Trestman came from the CFLand Tucker led the 32 nd ranked defense in Jacksonville. One think Fox has done is line himself up with great coordinators. I do agree with Collinsworth though, Im not sure the stars can align themselves so perfect (thank you SF).

Yep. I was in tank mode very early on. And it took more than a couple wins for me to come around.

they kind of are bad. like on the bad side of mediocre. just not #1 pick contention bad. really good coaching keeps the games close and they've been able to pull them out. they have been looking better and better lately though and some key young pieces are looking good.

fwiw, the only time tank mode crossed my mind was when it looked like cutler might be out a long time.

They're definitely bad, but like I said earlier in the season they're a "good bad team" where they were losing enough games to get a better draft pick but they were in pretty much all of the games and weren't losing in catastrophic fashion. Then you'd just be plain ol' bad, which usually can't be fixed quickly unless you have an amazing draft or two almost across the board.

Though now they've been upgraded a bit to throw the better draft pick out the window. Last night was awesome, but I can't help but wish they had at least a couple fewer wins overall this season.

if i had something to wish for, it'd definitely be that they have a couple more wins, because then 10-12 wins would be looking hella realistic right now.

Well, yeah, I wish they were actually undefeated, but I think as ti stands them missing the playoffs despite the makeup of their remaining schedule is more likely than them doing anything in the playoffs or even making them in the first place.

I just wanted a better draft pick specifically because I DON'T think they're hopelessly bad in terms of being able to compete next year.

well, hopefully White is 100% next season, which will essentially be a high first round pick, then I think they can take the best OT available and just load up on the fastest guys on the defensive side of the ball after that.

they have a real QB, which gives them a puncher's chance. if the defense plays like they have, then you got a stew going sooner than later.
