Honestly, Maddon should show the Belushi speech from Animal House right before they take the field today. That should get the point across while also loosening everyone up.

He should show the Belushi speech from Mr. Destiny.

He should show them a tied up Jim Belushi and let them do what needs to be done.

Just put up a good fight, Cubs. As a math major, I can't get excited, knowing how much the odds are against us. Please play like you care and prove me wrong. Not this apathetic pile of misery that's been on display the last three games.

I like how you're pounding this "THEY'RE NOT EVEN TRYING!!!" idea you have so damn hard.

I would do something cray today like DL Berry and Rodney, call up Pierce Johnson (to start Game 4) and Eddy Julio Martinez to start in the OF.

That's not a bad plan except that it's against the rules.

You can call up anyone in the organization as an injury replacement in the playoffs if it's approved by the MLB. They just have to be added to the 40-man roster.

This situation reminds me of what Joe said in his press conference to announce his hiring. He was asked about playoffs/curses/etc and he said something like:

"I don't know anything about all that. All I know is that if you take care of the seconds then the seconds take care of the minutes. The minutes take care of the hours and the hours the days. The days take care of the weeks and the weeks the months..."

They can't win four games tonight, but they can win one game tonight. And they can win one game tomorrow and so on.

It's what I told myself to make myself feel better this morning. Let's win 4 straight for the 10th time this year.

No, they have to be on the 40-man before September 1.

I know this isn't true it, but damnit, I wish there was a better explanation for our collapse than 'playoff beisbol.'

Was spitballing with some folks on twitter about how the "Moneyball doesn't work in the playoffs" might actually have some truth and not just rhetoric behind it. I mean its possible, I'm not sure its entirely true, that high-contact guys and power pitching gives you a slight edge over three-true-outcome guys that have contact problems like so much of our lineup has.

It would explain why the Royals are enjoying playoff success with a team that doesn't have much power but *does* have the ability to put the ball in play. It could also be, merely statistical noise in a tiny sample size that can't be helped.

So who is the Chicago version of Dan Shaughnessy that we can send Denorfia or Motte up to to say don't let us win Game 4.

Who's quitting baseball this year if the Cubs get eliminated? [expletive] that, I love this sport and I'm watching through the final pitch of the World Series. Winter is going to suck.

I sure do look forward to watching Alex Rios hit bloopers off some jackass with long hair

Royals - Mets is a game with no rooting interest

Not to mention the worst of the 4 possible matchups.

I'm pretty sure just about everyone sans Mets and Royals fans wanted to see Cubs-Jays.

Tonight: Jason Hammel pulls a first-half-like start out of hus butt and goes 7 scoreless innings. Kris Bryant hits a grand slam off Steven Matz to fuel the Cubs offense. Cubs win, 5-1.

Tomorrow: Jon Lester pitches 8 strong, striking out 12 Mets. Rizzo and Schwarber hit homers in a close, low scoring game that the Cubs claim on a walkoff, 3-2.

Game 6: Arrieta puts the team on his shoulders and throws a CGSO. Starlin Castro with the game winning RBI in an eventual 4-0 Cubs win.

Game 7: Hendricks struggles early but the Cubs manage to fight back and enter the late innings in a 3-3 tie. Chris Coghlan comes up with a clutch two out RBI in the 8th to put the Cubs up 4-3 and Strop/Rondon close out the miraculous comeback.

Cubs in 7.

I was never smart at math, so let me know if I have this right. What you're saying, as a math major, is that, math-wise speaking, being up 3-0 makes the Mets more likely to win?
