The Nats have 6 left(3 at home) against the Mets and 3 at home versus the O's. The rest of their schedule is 2 at home with the Braves, 1 with the Reds, 3 with the Phillies, and 3 with the Marlins. Road games are 3 each with the Phillies, Marlins, and Braves. They've got it easy, to say the least.

They also suck.

Great stuff in the LA-SD game.

Dodgers have bases loaded and one out. Hard grounder to first base. They throw to second to try to turn two and the shortstop clearly doesn't have the ball until after he's off second base. However, Utley's slide wasn't within two feet of the bag.

So first Mattingly comes out to try an argue the neighborhood play - mainly because the Dodgers got burned on one last night where the ump didn't give LA the out at second - and then Pat Murphy comes out to argue that Utley should be called for interference and they should get the double play.

My friend's cousin hit his first MLB homer for the Dodgers in that game too!

Pirates lose, Cubs are 3 back of them. I feel so gross rooting for the Cardinals.

i wonder how much our .7% or whatever division odds would increase if we swept them this week.

still low but yeah.

I was at the Nats/Braves game on Friday night and it was incredibly to see Harper's home run in the first inning. A moonshot that even had my son super excited!

Of course, we were nerding out in Cubs gear.

Nats are going to be 4 games back of the Mets as long as they don't blow a 4 run lead in the 9th, and they host the Mets for 3 starting tomorrow. The Mets hater in me really enjoys that development.

Between that and the Harvey drama, they're not having a great week.

It's really crazy how quickly momentum can change in a baseball season. The Nats were dead in the water a week ago.

You know the old saying, momentum is the next team to play the Braves.

Ok, I am rooting for the Pirates tonight. I know there is a slim, slim chance of us winning the division. But, we have a chance to sweep the Cards this next series and make it interesting, at least. And I really don't care about playing the wild card game at home, too much. And we still play the Pirates seven times anyway. And they also have a West Coast trip left, and are set up to face Kershaw and Greinke on it. So I don't give a [expletive] if we are two or three back of them.

At the very least I just want the division battle to get a little crazy for the last few weeks, even if that's ultimately just the Pirates making the Cardinals sweat.

I think the home field is somewhat important for the Wild Card, not so much in that the Cubs need to play at home, but in terms of which ballpark the game will be played. Having our dong happy bunch that will also likely feature at least one of Schwarber or Coghlan in the OF play in Wrigley is a lot better than playing in that HR-killing canyon where the Pirates have 3 gazelles patrolling the gaps.

That said, if anyone wants to root against the Cardinals tonight, I don't particularly care.

Not to mention the Pirates are merely one game over .500 on the road.

Bryant's home batting line is the main reason I want to see the Wild Card game in Wrigley. That, plus winning the division is over anyway. Done. That POV has nothing to do w/ being scared, or having some sort of lovable loser mentality.

Go Pirates.

I refuse to ever cheer for the Cards to win any game unless it is the difference between making the playoffs or not.

It would be cool to play the wild card at home just for the crowd and energy as a viewer, I don't know if it means much for the outcome, but TT's points are well made.

I don't worry too much about who to throw my rooting support for because it doesn't affect anything, and all the Cubs can do is play the remaining games on their schedule and see where the chips lie at the end.

This. When the season's over, whether for good or ill, I won't have my conscience sullied by having - shudder - rooted for the Cardinals.

This is what the crowd would be like:

Until they actually win another playoff game the crowd is going to be so small, so scared.

After that win? A little less small, a little less scared.

(Not literally small. That's a hot, hot callback)
