fine. maybe i was expecting it to be worse and read it that way accordingly. and if I misread the intent of the clearly tongue-in-cheek comment then that only makes it worse on my part. i worked 12 hours today and i'm not probably thinking clearly.

I'm probably one of the bigger Baez supporters left these days, and I certainly need to see a larger sample size than one AB before I form any opinions.

But, still... on that particular 0-1 pitch, I almost feel like our coaching staff should have given him the red light. The 3rd base coach should have a sign that means, "They're about to throw you some [expletive]".

When did this "Javy is a great defender" movement start?

That was never really the scouting report coming up, and he wasn't great in his stint last year. Does this all come from Maddon trying to be positive about his spring training performance? I think JD was mostly just talking out of his ass last inning when he said Cubs people weren't sure who is a better SS between Javy and Russell, but I feel like a lot of people are talking about his defense when they weren't just last year.

Like I'm not necessarily saying he's bad at defense, but the sudden extreme confidence in it seems weird.

You wanted the coaching staff to make him take an 0-1 pitch....in an effort to strike out less?

Yes? Like he said, that particular 0-1 pitch; it was pretty likely he was going to try to go outside. It's not like he's saying that should have him lay off all 0-1 pitches.

The reason I said "almost" is because I wasn't entirely serious, but yes. Maybe I'm just a psychic, but I was able to successfully predict that second pitch, and I'm sitting here eating pasta directly out of the pot.

different note...Milwaukee is up 5-0 on Cole and the Pirates.

I mean, in the sense that most pitchers who go up 0-1 are going to intend to go outside the zone against Baez, sure. But I think having to give a take sign there would be the sign of a much bigger issue. Pitchers, especially bums like this guy (tonight being a dumb exception), do miss spots occasionally.

The worst part of this offensive dry spell is that the BABIP gods have giveth much in the past week and we've still kept losing

I'll take it, obviously

Just running some quick math, this lineup over a full season could pretty easily put up 195 home runs just from these 8 guys. Dodgers are leading the NL and are on pace for 193. Which is fun.

Fowler 15

Schwarber 35

Coghlan or Soler 20

Bryant 30

Rizzo 30

Montero 25

Baez 25

Russell 15

Those look like...favorable estimates. Montero and Schwarber specifically.

Yeah wow, Montero is way high. Thought he had a season in the upper 20s.

Schwarber might be a little high, but I think putting around 90 on Schwarber/Bryant/Rizzo for a year wouldn't be too far off.
